I might as well add my opinion...

Bayonetta
+ Combat system is fun, deep, and fluid
+ The game encourages use of the combat system to its fullest through prologue and Alfheim's
+ Story is solid and cohesive
+ Graphics are excellent
+ Comic relief in several cases is perfectly timed and hilarious
+ Alfheim portal challenges are very well done
+ The game is just plain addictive
+ Elegantly brutal when slicing and dicing

I think Bayonetta is the best overall action game out there... It may not be top in every category, but it is on top overall today.

It is far stronger than DMC4, NGII didn't have as strong of story, GoW has too gloomy of a tone in comparison, and Darksiders is in the same alley as GoW. I don't know how they could have did much better for Bayonetta.

the story is solid and cohesive ?

Are we playing the same game ?

No you are not playing the same game, the Bayonetta that came out for Xbox360 even has a better more coherent story.

Anyway Bayoneta's plat is mine !

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I like the bayonetta story as well...its very original. I like when a game doesn' take itself so seriously. There is nothing worse than a videogame medium thiking its more important than it actually is.

Cool, to be honest, I loved watching the cut-scenes in the game. Some of the stuff that goes on is damn funny, and just fun. I found it to be an immensly entertaining game. No doubt not everyone's cup of tea, but its kind of like a smarter version of those old B-movies like Barberella, where the entire point of the movie is to get Jane Fonda to look incredibly hot, put on tons of different sexy outfits, and make obvious (but oblivious to her character) sex jokes.

Except, this game had a decently high budget, and was made by incredibly talented developers. So very japanese, but also so very awesome. Definitely prefer this style to the awkward, pretend we're cool, but actually just look like a cheeseball characters in Devil May Cry.

@bKushalafang
lol, you comment made my LMAO. 360 version has shorter loading times and better frame rate. the gameplay and story is the same on both versions

I really enjoyed Bayonetta. Bayonetta is my favorite action game thus Bayonette is the "best action game" for me. The story and humor are great. The combat system is fluid, well paced, and a blast to actually play.

Def. not the greatest action game ever but it sure somewhere in the top there. I hope they make a series out of the game itself, it's great. I favor it much more than Devil May Cry. Part 4 left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Only grip I have about the game that it was too short but everything else was enjoyable. I bought the PS3 version which was BLEH! Awful loading, just sad that they didn't take advantage of the PS3's compatibilities. I traded it in and waiting for my 360 copy to come in the mail. Been a back order for a real long time from Toys R Us.

Bayonetta will be the greatest action game of all time, until God Of War 3 comes out.

Why? because Bayonetta it's 80% DMC + some redefined gameplay + new character + new story
-The game failed, it didn't sell more than 1M across both platforms, i don't think it will.
-Platinum Games can't even make a good port of their best selling platform.
-The main character is not appealing at all.
-The combat is not redefining anything.

Why GOW3 will be the greatest action game of all time?

-it'll be the best selling hack & slash game.
-The best story you can find in this genre, great design too.
-Great graphics running at 60fps.
-Main character appealing.
-The combat redefined the genre ( see darksiders, dante's inferno, and other games which tries to "steal" the best of it )

this is my opinion, i have to say that i don't like BAYONETTA at all, it looks dull to me, just because itagaki created the game it doesn't mean it's good, the game it's the same from DMC to me.

- Sales do not equal quality, by your stance Wii Sports is the best sports game of all time and Knock Out is the best boxing game of all time and Mario Kart is the best racing game of all time.

- Yes, the story in Bayonetta is crap and God of War has one of the best story/dialogue combinations in video games.

- Graphics don't equal quality (Killzone 2 and Crysis are not the best FPS games)

- God of War only redefined gameplay because of copy cats: Dante feels like Conan or something (As in it's garbage) and Darksiders is more Zelda than GoW from what I've heard.

- God of War 3 is gonna be 99% the same combat as 1 and 2. Bayonetta is far removed from DMC (DMC 4 was all about juggling and button memorization, Bayonetta is all about timing), Bayonetta is the next evolution of action games just like DMC was when it came out. The future of action is in speed and reflexes and dodging not blocking and slowly hitting a few times (GoW) or juggling dumb enemies in the air for 30 seconds (DMC).

I prefer the combat/story in DMC4 over bayonetta. This game has to many combo's that will lead to more button mashing then anything, and enemies on normal have to much life, every encounter isn't suppose to feel like a boss battle. Bayonetta also doesn't have very many puzzles, so its feels like your heading from one combat arena to the next, and when they try to mix it up by having you ride a motorcycle or a missile its done poorly. I enjoyed the game, but DMC4 is a much better game imo.

I also wouldn't compare this to GoW, they feel totally different.

I think both DMC 4 and Bayonetta have such stupid stories that I wish there was no story at all in both games and they'd just go from fight to fight (which I do, skipping all the cut scenes). Bayonetta can get button mashy but so do GoW and DMC, also I like the fact that enemies on normal can kill you and that boss fights last forever, there isn't enough action in most action games these days (cut scenes and crappy puzzles). Also DMC 4's puzzles were the worst part of the game (that and the 3 or 4 time repeating bosses) and I'd rather either a game really puts effort into puzzles (Zelda) or doesn't try them at all.

In 2001, Dante and Devil May Cry came out and changed the game. He had an instant fan base. In 2004, Kratos and God of War did the same (thought it was a little overrated, myself). He has a huge fan base. Bayonettas first game is better than their games. It's better than the Ninja Gaiden games, too (Ryu has a huge fanbase from the Nes, DoA, and Ninja Gaiden games). My best guess is that people are emotionally attached to the other series and because of that, they are going to hate Bayonetta. If she wasn't a threat to the other beloved franchises, If it wasn't classified as the best action game, there'd be a lot less hate thrown her way.

If a platformer game came along that was better than Mario, I'd hate it, too. I would never admit that it's better than my beloved franchise. I understand. It's human nature.
