I didn't like it either, but yeah it's gotten popular. A lot more than the author's other work Accel World that's for sure.

COMG's sales might be an outlier though, SAO hasn't been in the top 10 on Amazon for weeks and finally made it back into the top 20 recently.

Both of them just seemed to be following in .hack's footsteps, to be honest, though I thought Accel World was more interesting.

You're probably right, though. It just seemed strange to me. I'll be interested to see the first week numbers.

I wasnt' displeased by Sword Art Online anime. I expected much worse.
You must also consider how likeable and striking can be such serie for an high school teen consumer.
