COMG is just a chain of stores in Japan. They announce their own preorder and sales counts, that's all.

It's basically looking at the Amazon or Tsutaya sales rankings but with numbers.

COMG isn't a prediction, though.  And 1 point here doesn't automatically mean 1k preorders in the real world.

From what I've gathered about COMG, it's just a chain of stores somewhere in Japan who release their preorder data.  That's all.  So +1 on this chart means 1 preorder in a COMG store, that's all.

People extrapolate that to take guesses at real world sales.  Very roughly, 1 point here does make about 1k first-week sales for a game.  But oftentimes, this figure is less for Sony games (more like 600 first week sales per point) and more for Nintendo games (closer to 1000 first week sales per point).  

But at end of the day it's all just guesswork.  It just gives us a brief idea of how well a game is doing.  Last week we had Magi for 3DS ending with about 86 pre-orders, but it opened with a 25k first week.  So it's not foolproof, just a fun thing to follow :P

That's all that's set for the next 3 months. Like literally, the next game that has a set release date is Resident Evil Revelations on May 23.

Wow. Well that's not good. Those 3 games (except for possibly DQX) are not going to sell very well at all in Japan. I thought there might at least be some Japanese-developed games or something.

I think they are holding the announcements, Nintendo is probably the most conservative of the 3, and they've launched first this time. They may be waiting for a good timing, or considering a pricecut.


Yeah I would definitely say wait for E3 and half-expect a blitz. Nintendo needs something to counter the PS4 and Xbox720 presentations, and a huge, bigger than expected game announcement could just be their hidden card. Too bad that also means current Wii U owners are starved until after June...


Its not a big deal, they'll just bring some Mario kart and Mario 3D land to make people wait for a real ambitious mario 3D(thats what they announced at the nintendo direct : a mario kart later this year), like the 3DS.

And it will work, unfortunately.


Thats why they'll always do the same thing, no matter what the first buyers will think, a bad first year with some mario at the end of the year because they know people just need 2-3 mario to buy their platform.


Personally, the only game I REALLY want is rayman! But the stupid delay..


And Metroid no ? ^^

I think i wont buy Rayman Legends at the launch, thanks to the delay, there will be too many games to buy, between GTA V, Killzone MErcenary, Pokemon, TearAway....

 

 

Benao87 : I think they worked well on GC, 22M is a good number, just with the first party titles.

Yes Metroid of course, but it isn't going to be released soon probably. It hasn't even been announced yet.  I just couldn't get enough of the amazing Rayman demo.



Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

while thats good, dont get to happy. Games tend to sway back and forth. Animal crossing for example. It goes to #2 or 3 or 4 during the day then ends up at #10. SS was at #7 the other day but went down to #13. just saying

Layton was constantly at 5-6 in Amazon, so yeah. It will be a good indicator when Media Create comes in wendsday.

I'm sure if the Vita bundle and Double pack are counted it's over 50 already. I think the way COMG splits regular and limited editions is a little misleading.


That would only be its maximum amount of potential points SS has in total, but we have know way of knowing what it really is for now.

 

Regarding Layton, some of you are underestimating it too much. 30% of the initial 300k shipment means it sold around 100k first day, which already makes it one of the higher selling games on that list. Also keep in mind that this if just first day sales, over the weekend it could sell as much as 200k copies. While L5 does have a history of over shipping games, its not always a bad thing. With PWvsPL, we saw low sell through from first day and week sales, but over the holiday it sold through all of its shipment. Same with Inazuma Eleven. Nintendo does this too you know.
