Forums - Sales Discussion - Natal and Wand to reach beyond Wii says EA Europe's senior VP

All of these publishers now suddenly fully devoted to Natal and the Wand, are either going to have to admit they were slacking on the Wii and not giving a real effort, or they will reproduce the same failures they are already experiencing with the Wii.

Haha, just like the Wii is always doomed no matter what happens, these companies will never admit to anything, just spin it. So if they put in a real effort for Natal/Gem (plus actually advertise these games, contrary to what they did on the Wii), if asked they will just say that they put in an effort in the Wii as well but the market wasn't there. They won't let the facts confuse them.

Frankly personally I have stopped caring about all that though, between Nintendo and 3rd party existing/up and coming games for the Wii, I have more games that I want to play than time to play them. Also, I don't think even the developers that said anything will totally stop development for the Wii, they will just develop less - quite probably a good thing as who knows, maybe that less will actually enable them to focus more on quality (and advertising...) - one can always dream

The thing that puzzles me is the talk about it is the Software and that the Wii will have the motion control software and the PS3 and 360 wont. Now be honest in 2009 was there any piece of software other than Wii Sports Resort that were both stand out success in sales and was also stand out use of motion controls? What are the top 10 pieces of software that use motion controls?

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

wii is doomed again? -_-

A very good point. One thing Sony and Microsoft need to learn (though sony should have learnt with the eye toy), is if they want to expand their user base, then it will be up to them to produce the software, because as soon as 3rd party's realise their new software is not selling as much as their traditional software they will jump out, and go back to making their "hardcore/gamer games". I say this because 3rd parties are cautios, and when going to developing for these new platforms they will not go all out but just dip their toes in water . lets face it why should they put in a lot amount of effort on a unproven platform, as far as they're concerned they can keep making the games they like to make and hope it sells.

out of sony and MS i think MS will find it harder to push their product, at least Sony can look at some past examples of some of the wii's library and go from there, where Ms need to rethink everything from the ground up. I can't help but think MS are putting them selves in a place where they have not done enough researched or planning. The amount of RnD (including surveys of the general public) nintendo had to go through before they could even conceptualize the Wii is huge, to me it seems they MS needed to bring something out that they thought could stop the Wii disruption and start thier own.

When i was watching the Natal presentation, i could not help but think how great it would be for an OS/menu interface, and loved the idea of voice recognition (provided it is done very well) but in regards to gaming, right now can't see its advantages, like I said earlier it will have to be Ms who gets the creative juices flowing, and show me ( and the general public) Natal is the thing to get.

How will the PS3 Wand going to better the wii remote they basically do the same (from what I have seen), is there something I'm missing?

No analog stick, and without a nunchuck like piece it's doomed to mini games and light guns....

Everyone has been saying Nintendo was doomed since the Nintendo 64 started to get sluggish around 1999. That is one straight decade of doom predictions. People need to reconsider their prophetic abilities if their accuracy has a decade long margin of error.
