Forums - Sony Discussion - Anyone believe or hope Sony will leave the videogame business?

Jack, I highly doubt companies come to 'win a generation vs a competitor' it's all fanboy folklore you know. Companies mostly run business to make a profit and for that, they aim at taking greater market share.

MS would NEVER leave the gaming business if they become really successful, which now looks possible to achieve. They'd just try to get more profits and more market share...

On the other hand, my answer to your statement meant that considering recent hardware sales, their "second place" didn't look sure at all anymore to me...

This week only, the PS3/360 gap decreased by 200k consoles to roughly 5 million. At this rate, PS3 would reach 360 installed base in only 6 months (25 weeks)... I know the rate will decrease, but still you see the point, it's not sure at all they'll "win" against Sony now... Actually, it looks less and less likely as PS3 becomes more successful.

If this means SEGA comes back, than yes!

Again deep insecurity. Now Sony have got the format wars/ price out of the way are people feeling quesy about 2010?.

No! Sony, MS and Nintendo should all stay. Competition is GOOD.

I definately prefer my 360 over my PS3, but I would never want them to leave the business altogether. Microsoft is great at monopolies. Anyone heard of Windows? Competition is great for the consumers. Just this winter I got Madden, UFC unleashed, and Guitar Hero Metallica for less than $35. Also, they were running mad deals on games with the purchase of a console. If there were only one HD console left no one would be getting these deals. On the flipside, it would be nice to get rid of all of the fanboys on both sides. There really wouldn't need to be any if there was only one to choose from.

I would be excited if Sony and Nintendo merged forming the Pii 3.

Microsoft should be the platform provider...

Nintendo should be the casual gaming company on that platform...

Sony should be the core game provider on that platform...

Everyone wins and is profitable...

awww....another one of those posters that just takes a thread and changes a few words to change the subject. Toastyboy used to do that if I remember. Can't you come up with even a modicum of unique thought for your own thread?

OT: I believe Sony will leave the video game industry someday. Just like Nintendo and Microsoft will, and some day the sun will grow as it dies and destroy the earth. Hopefully it doesn't happen too soon though.

Why are you so negative, its depressing.

oh my bad, I wrote that incorrectly.  The "hopefully it doesn't happen too soon though" was about Sony leaving the game industry not about the sun thing.  We pretty much know when the Sun will do that and we'll all be long long long dead.

It will be the biggest RRoD ever!  And we won't be able to see it!!!   Life stinks!

Competition is bad people, plain and simple.

Let me give you a little happenstance that caused me much anguish. Once I was selling lemonade on a street corner. A great business TBH. You go to the grocery store and purchase some kool-aid packets and some sugar. Big whoop right? And for the water, you simply take a visit to the nearest public toilet. How much $$$ can be gained from? Well, once you factor in the practically nonexistent sunk costs from materials and the returns from price jacking, it's actually quite a substantial amount. But anyways, I digress...

Once upon a time I was selling some tasty lemonade. All went well until I started to get competition. This little girl from across the street opened up a joint and sold the goods for 10% less than me, pft... stupid bitch. As you can imagine, this new found competition did not put a smile on my fucking face, so I cut lemonade prices by over 20%. Business was looking up again! What happened next? She cut prices by over 40%!!! Can you believe that? 20 cents per fucking cup! God dammit, I have a family to feed!!!

What happened next? I hired a guy named Bobo McBobo to break her legs. Next day, no more competition :) But it still scared the shit out of me!!!

In short, competition is bad... I guess...
