Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Anyone believe or hope Microsoft will leave the videogame business?

MS leads an ideological dictatorship. Their goliath ways of buying press, buying message board opinion and buying publishers has left the public with little chance to make a legitimate choice.

They spent the first 7 years of their gaming existence buying it up with their revenue in other industries. This creates a situation where companies in the future cannot hope to compete, and who knows whether or not Nintendo themselves won't have trouble staying alive from all this buying up of gaming Microsoft does. It's very unbalanced long term, and creates an unhealthy situation, where innovating can only happen from a place of technology and what's being dictated from Microsoft. Just look at the features Microsoft has mandated on all Xbox 360 games from the beginning.

Even still, they're not winning now. But they're still the ones whose participation in the industry is most dangerous long term. So yes, I would like to see them leave. Hopefully it can return to the ways of entertainment, and these technology companies(Microsoft and looming Apple) can have other focuses. There's a reason why Sony created Sony Computer Entertainment to carry out the PlayStation. They were a technology company in origin, but they were well aware this was an entertainment business.

You are aware that when Sony entered the console gaming world they had ZERO (credible) games or franchises right?

Not only that theres interviews all over the web STATING that prior to Ken Kuturagi joining sony that sony LOOKED DOWN upon gaming and had no interest in it. (it's only when they realised how profitable it could be that they joined the race)

Sony BOUGHT & BRIBED their way to the top.

Sony wanted to monopolise the gaming world for themselves too despite the fact that at one time they had no gaming talent whatsoever.

Think about that before you take a dig at microsoft.

I expected a lot of DIE XBOX DIE but I'm glad most see that the competition is creating better games but I'm not apart of the popular fad that is the wii so F nintendo

No, the 360 is the best gaming console ever.

I wouldn't mind if Nintendo disappeared. I don't care how much they sell, I just don't care for their games.

yes it is, the 360 is fantastic.

Nintendo is much much better than SONY but not MS

sony never had to pay a dime for third parties, nintendo was good enough kicking them off,

bribe them maybe, but with technology, help with promotion (they saved square from dying with spirit within), and with the ps2, very well optimized games engines.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Sony pay for the latter last gen GTAs to be timed exclusives?

@CGI-Quality

Sorry i hit reply, so i assumed it would be directed at the person i was talking about.

Why is it that all the criticism of Microsoft tend to be made by people who are fond of Sony's place in the industry and yet they criticise Microsoft on grounds that Sony has trod on much heavier than Microsoft has themselves!

* Microsoft trying to form a monopoly:

Answer: What has Sony been doing the last 2 generations with aggressive price competition, taking low software royalties, money hatting timed exclusives? Every time Nintendo has been on top the other companies at least had a chance to compete AND make a profit.

* Microsoft doesn't belong in the industry:

Answer: Neither does Sony if you spread your critical gaze back towards Sony and apply the same criteria. Microsoft has been involved in gaming since the late 80's which is infact only about 10 years behind Nintendo and 5-10 years before Sony.

* Microsoft is milking people:

Answer: So is Sony and so is Nintendo and so is Blizzard and so on... Willing seller/willing buyer, they can't compel people to buy their products and there are alternatives... Its one thing to be logical and say that somethings not worth it, the issue here is it sounds like a personal affront that Microsoft dare 'milk people'.

* If Microsoft takes over it will be the end of the industry:

I remember saying that with the PS1, so if the industry can survive Sony they can certainly survive Microsoft as they are as bad as each other.

Microsoft does not have a monopoly and is not trying to have a monopoly. If they actually had one, Apple and Google would not exist. Microsoft has a lion's share of the market, but it's 100% not a monopoly.

Just cause they failed doesnt mean they are not trying.
