Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Would you like to see Nintendo acquire any studios?

I really have a strong feeling that even if the next Nintendo console is successful like the Wii has been, that we're never going to have the level of 3rd party support that the HD twins have, by nature of Nintendo being a massive software developer as well as hardware developer. Because of this I've been advocating that Nintendo add more diversity to their software portfolio to defend themselves against 3rd party publishers (PARTICULARLY western publishers). Whether you agree with that point of view or not, would you like Nintendo to acquire a studio or two? And if so, which ones?

Mine is:

Grasshopper Manufacture

This is exactly the type of development studio Nintendo needs under its umbrella. They make unique, innovative, yet edgy games that can REALLY get some good push with the full might of Nintendo behind them. I really think that they could add very importanty diversity to Nintendo's software portfolio.

What do you guys think?

I would actually Like Nintendo to acquire another western dev and my top choice is Next Level games. After there good work on Mario Soccer and Punch out I think they a good fit for Nintendo.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

I wouldn't mind it if Nintendo could buy back RareWare at pennies to the dollar! Even though they apparently suck now I still miss them with Nintendo!

Yeah, they should buy back Rare for a fraction of what they were sold haha, just for the lulz. Also, it would be funny they acquired things like Bungie, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla or the likes.

For a serious answer, it would be Grasshopper, Next Level, Vanillaware, HVS or Nocturnal Entertainment.

Good stuff.

One thing is I would like to see Nintendo acquire another studio...like Retro, that can really help diversify and stretch Nintendo's portfolio. Just like what Rare did back with the 64. I'm not sure if Next Level games could do that.....but then again we haven't seen what else they're capable of yet.

Naughty Dogs, VanillaWare, Grasshopper, Rare

Um, one more thing....let's try to focus the discussion on studios that we have a REALISTIC chance of acquiring. Naughty Dog and Rare are first-party developers, so they don't count. Other studios however (like Grasshopper, VanillaWare, etc) are fair game.

My dream is Nintendo buying sega and bringing new life to all its dead franchises...

Alex Kidd, Toe Jam and Earl, Panzer dragoon.... too many to list here! Serioulsly, this would be the best day ever in videogames to me!

But for a possible dream, nintendo could buy Level 5 - professor layton is too cool!

For more "hardcore" and original japanese games, they could buy Treasure, Platinum Games, Mystwalker, Cing and Vanillaware, all very talented teams...

But Nintendo will never do this, as games made by these teams usually have "niche" success: they won't spend millions for games with a 200k-500k potential only... but they did it with Monolith, so who knows...

And if they want to shock the industry and make a great move against Sony and Microsoft, there's just ONE big thing to do: buy Capcom... all Capcom games exclusive to Nintendo consoles, now that would be something...

And buy some talented western teams in the vein of Retro would be a good move, too, but i don't know the smaller western teams as well as the japanese ones, so i won't give any name, and will let you guys make suggestions... :)

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

Buy EA. The company is losing money, and Nintendo could actually put their studios on track (as well as have an actual Dead Space game on the Wii).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
