Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What will be the development time for NATAL games?

NATAL has been the biggest buzz in the gaming industry and out of it since E3 09.Everybody's discussing the tech's possibility and how it could change gaming industry.NATAL looks good on paper but it will not be bought by consumers till it has some compelling software.

We know that it detects Movement in a 3D area but that alone will not help developers develop games. The hardware has the capability but it will take time for the developers to understand and develop for it.

I mean setting properties and attributes for every move we make infront of NATAL.Now that would take a heck lot of time and most probably cost alot of money. And only a few big developers will develop for it at the beginning cause of the risk that if the game bombs and the public doesn't accept NATAL.

So what will be the the average development time for games for NATAL?

Well, games only take a small patch to be able to work with Natal. That is why Burnout, Katamari, and Half-Life 2 were so quickly ported.

But they announced NAtal back at E3 last year, and had said that they had sent out Dev kits for it. So I say about 2 years by the time it is released

Natal is just a gimmick tack on, so i suspect patches will be available for a ridiculous fee. 2-3 weeks to port uninvolved games like Halo 3 and maybe a week at most to alter sports games.

Just pay for xbox live, then pay for the patch and you're good to go!

You don't get charged for game updates. What on earth gave you such an idea so far out there in left field?

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

They'll come up with some bullshit. Call it "Gameplay Enhancement" 500MSP per game.

we haven't seen anybody play all those games u mentioned. We don't know if they were ported so quickly

It all depends on MS's SDK. Can you elaborate a little more on the aspects that you think will be hard to utilize?

it can be quite quick

quoting a PR 360 guy about the Natal on CoD (french interview):

"Natal rajoutera des fonctionnalités à des jeux gamers comme les FPS. De ce point de vue, si je suis dans Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 par exemple, envoyer une grenade, c'est peut-être plus intéressant de le faire directement en réalisant le mouvement avec son bras, que Natal reconnaisse cela et la force à laquelle je l'envoie. Pour autant, pour les phases de tir, je conserve la manette pour une précision très pointue."

"you will be able to launch a grenade by making the move with your arm but the shooting is done with the paddle"

1 month should be largely sufficient to implement this feature (gimmick IMO)
At the opposite, something like "a true MILO game" should take a lot of more time

1 month to map a gesture to a game action??? Are you nuts???

oh, when I say 1 month, I could have said 1 day

My point was : it is quick to add

I dont think anyone can really know how long it will take to add it, but it is not long because it is not a big addition.

also, remember natal is quite new, it is perhaps not easy to work with
