Forums - Sony Discussion - Nielsen study: 52% of PSP owners... female.

Considering Nintendo has a monopoly on the female market for home consoles, I'm thinking there is some mistake here.

The successful PSP games are very male oriented, the fact that DS isn't mentioned is suspicious. I think the original Nielsen blogger made a mistake and that mistake (like they've done before with their graphs) has been repeated by the press.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Nielsen says that's wrong.

52 per cent of US PSP owners are female, as are 49 per cent of Wii owners, according to Nielsen. 45 per cent of active gamers (defined as users who play at least one hour per week) are also female.

EDIT: Bah, actually. With Nintendo's spin, that may be true.

That's basically a list of the facts the blogger revealed.

Why would they mention PSP and not DS? Does anyone here think the PSP might have a bigger female to male ratio than DS? Looking at the top games for both, I don't believe that for a second.

Girls like games too. Try talking to them instead hiding in the corner next you guys see one.

I know A lot of people that have PSP, and I mean a lot, not one is female, not to say females don't play the PSP, I just don't by the 52% part. maybe 20-25 % . I smell Bullshit.

I really don't believe it either. I never saw a girl with a PSP in my entire life, I'm not saying that some girls doesnt own a PSP but 52% is way too high imo.

I guess japan plays a huge role?

Yes, PSP features eat DS features.
