Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii tie ratio is superior to PS3's

Console        Weekly                             Total                     Tie Ratio
  WII               15,121,682 (+12%)       421,472,568            6.55
  X360              7,400,371 (+13%)        312,704,094            8.55
  PS3                5,415,234 (-12%)         200,312,616            6.46

Is this recent? I haven't seen this being discussed but this is an hell of an achievement considering that every generation the market leader has low tie ratios compared to the 2nd and 3rd systems.

As an example of this you can see that the 360 tie ratio remains at 8.55 similar to Gamecube's 9.0 (I'm not shure about the decimals) tie ratio despite it's mediocre sales compared to PS2.

I wonder how the professionals of the industry that said "The Wii doesn't sell software" are feeling now.....

Congrats Nintendo

Is there room for another person?

There's room for all who like to avoid the firestorms..

The Wii's tie ratio gets inflated during the holiday seasons due to really high software sales. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 takes the lead again (in that regard) in 2010.

It's been always like that. It's just it includes Wii Sports (to my knowledge.)

Which it probably should... because adding it is better then not adding it... and everyone has their bundles.

It's not perfect however.

^ well say hello to your new bunker

The Wii and PS3 tie ratios have always been very close. They have rarely been more than a few hundredths of a point apart. The main reason for the 360 tie ratio being so much higher is the year head start. It takes time for people to build their game library, and a year makes a big difference.

it does include Wii Sports, and it should be included as it is a game people play. Just like the game that anyone bought with their PS3 or X360. However, it is a forced 1st party purchase, which from a 3rd party standpoint doesn't help out. However, tie ration doesn't really matter in the end, as a 60m userbase witha tie ratio of 5 will buy way more games than a 30m userbase with a tie ration of 6.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
