Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What is gametrailers problem with the wii?

Gametrailers is an excellent site to watch trailers. Regarding their features, I think their credibility is pretty low. This guys gave a bunch of prizes to Modern Warfare 2. It is an excellent game that definitely deserves many of them, but do you they really think the very short convoluted collection of cliches that form the campaign was the best single-player experience of 2009? Or that the game that screwed with online play should deserve best PC game of the year? Or that it was actually better than Uncharted 2 as the best PS3 game of the year?

Watch the trailers, don't bother with their opinion.

I sorry you just proved me right!  A classic game is like the hall of fame for sports.  My idea of GOTY is based on pure fun and replay value.  That is what the Wii gives.  Super Mario Bros games are like.  Jack Nicholas is to Golf - Joe Montana is to Football - Pele is to Soccer - Micheal Jordan is to Basketball need I go on?

NSMB Wii is plain and simple a better game to more people live with it!

Replay value and fun are extremely subjective as well. I replayed Uncharted 1 last week for the umpteenth time even though I've played the 2nd. I sold Metroid Prime 3 after going through it once, but I like replaying the original Metroid Prime. I clocked in much more hours in KZ2 than in Zelda:TP, and so on.

Plus, this may come as a shock, but not everybody has a fetish for Mario platforming or many other supposedly timeless classics, especially if they didn't grow up with them. I didn't as I was a computer gamer back in the '80s and while I loved SMG and Mario 64 I find 2d Mario games good, but not so incredibly fun and captivating. I recently tried Punch Out on the Wii and it left me utterly cold.

That's my personal taste and behaviour, and I don't even try to think that it mirrors any absolute truth. What about you?

Btw, you got entangled in your own similitudes: when was the last time Micheal Jordan won a "player of the year" award?

Did it ever occur to you that HD games may be better then their Wii competitors and that is why Wii games don't take GOTY? (Besides, last year, the Wii got nothing worthy of the title).

A simple as it is to respond to your post.  Let me start with this.  Will you ever play MW2, Uncharted 2 (blah blee freaking blah) again after MW3, Uncharted 3 come out?  The answer to that is NOPE!

This^^^ is why games like Punch Out, Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, Zelda ect are better games.  The replay value is unlimited and will never go away.  I still like to play NES game from 1985.  Will you ever freaking play the original Gran Tourismo again? NOPE! once again.  HD Games are in no shape or form better than games like Little King Story or NSMB Wii.

Wow the game looks great!  Oh, but it is the same as every other freaking game with a different story line.  This is where XBOX360 and PS3 are making mistakes.  They need more games like Little Big Planet to compete.  Guess what they don't want to, they want to focus on graphics.  I don't care how good it looks, if I can't figure out the 70 buttons to push

Wow this one hilarious response by a traumatized Nintendo fanboy. First of all we are talking Game of the Year, not classic games you still play. Second of all don't bring up sequels since every big hit the Wii has had is a REMAKE or SEQUEL to a original franchise. The only thing you have done by posting this comment is cemented my reason of never getting a Wii. Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Mario Bros, Zelda, Contra etc were amazing games back in the day and I do love to play them, and therefore I will never have the urge to play these games on the Wii since they are lesser quality remakes and rehashes. SMBWii? 2D mario with a few new suits and remapped worlds. I'll save my money and play SMB3, the best 2D mario made. I know you don't want to face the facts the Wii is a casual gamer's console with motion controls slapped on to classic franchises. This does not make them better, it just convolutes them. Mario Kart Wii is the worst Mario Kart I've ever played. That said gaming has evolved and the HD consoles have games with great stories, great graphics, and someday may become classics. Last fact I find it much more difficult to play a FPS on the Wii then with a controller so your '70 buttons' comment has no value. The Wii controller with nunchuck is much more cumbersome.

While I agree that his post was pretty damn silly, yours is even more silly.

They never have any new wii game footage.  They don't pick Wii exclusive games for wii game of the year.  NSMBWii isn't even mentioned on the game of the year award...  I just don't get it?  Why must everyone rate a game on graphics?

Fisrt: I rate my games on how fun they are!

Second: Controls and gameplay

Third: Story

Fourth: Music

Fifth: Graphics

Everything gametrailers does is on visuals.  Well I think they are terrible when it comes to rating games, and they need to treat the wii with more respect!!!

Uncharted 2 was fun in every aspect of gameplay from puzzles to platform elements, to stealth, cover system, run and gun, etc. Also the online multiplayer was loads of fun and boasted an amazing musical score. Controls felt tight and the multiplayer adds further replayability to an already amazing game. KZ2 had a pretty good story (especially if you played 1 although a mediocre game on the ps2 due to system limitations), awesome gameplay, excellent cover system, sense of teamwork as the AI of your comrades was top notch along with enemy AI. Great sound, pretty good musical score and got dramatic where it should, and top notch graphics. Multiplayer added huuuuge amounts of replayability thanks to the unlockable classes, weapons, abilities, etc, oh and the graphics were also stunning. MW2 had a short but sweet single player campaign with above average graphics, tight controls, pretty good musical score, huuuuuge replayability cuz of the multiplayer as well. Not to mention Demon's Souls, Batman AA, AC2,etc. NSMBW only had a chance by its own fans but when pitted against these titles there is only 1 aspect that stands out and that was the multiplayer (which was waaaaaayyy overdue, only took them what? 25 years? oh wait original arcade Mario bros. had it). I found SMB3 the better game at the time with all that it offered.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

I agree with you, Uncharted 2 was nominated for having all those, NSMB didnt because it only has a coupleof them.

You know. I was going to dispute your comment about NSMB, but then I realized that it doesn't have a story. And the music isn't as good as it's been in past games. So I guess you're right. That said, NSMB has a buttload of what counts the most, being funness.

Though I'm sure that Uncharted 2 has more than enough of that, as well.

I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600 days and I think I have a pretty good grasp on what consoles are great and what franchises are great. Nintendo, SNES, and even parts of the Nintendo 64 were great consoles with awesome gaming franchises. New concepts and stories were brought to the table. PS1, PS2 did the same thing. Now that I'm in my 6th generation of gaming I greatly enjoy the 360. I actually believe the 360 quite possibly has the best game library or equal game library out of any console I've played or owned, all the way back to the Atari days. I haven't played the PS3 and I am intrigued by it and might buy one in the future. Sony and Microsoft have been playing a game of one up on each other the past couple generations and it has resulted in great new franchises and games that have pushed the evolution of gaming. I've played the Wii (my gf had one until she sold it for lack of replay value) and it has not grown up. If  you believe otherwise thats fine with me but myself and almost every other non Nintendo fanboy realizes the Wii is a casual gamer's machine. Adding motion control does not make this the next evolution of gaming. The games themselves do and Nintendo has not put out games of equal quality as the HD machines.
