Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario & Sonic - anybody got impressions to share?

I really enjoyed it so far. I plaed about 10 hours or so, 7 was with friends. The game is mmore intertaining with friends over but the single player mode holds it own. I think everyone should buy this just for the fact its Mario and Sonic. I been thinking about that since I was 9. So now we have Alien vs. Preditor, Freddy vs Jason and Mario vs. Sonic now all I need is Robocop vs. Termanator.

*shakes head at Gamespot and 1up* They just don't get it.

I just picked up my game yesterday. I didn't care about the reviews ... I just wanted Mario & Sonic together.

That being said remember that this won the best Wii game at Lipzig. So some people like it.

But it is, in essense, a colleciton of minigames, which mean some people won't.

I hope to break it open this weekend.

PS -- I doubt that this will make the 4M in sales predicted by Sega

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Yeah, it's not that I'm asking for fanboyish cheer in every review.
But their reviews always sound like they are completely unwilling to enjoy these games. That's why I stick to IGN, because they don't go into reviewing like: "Ok, this is gonna be crap. Let's see. Waggle crap. Mascot crap. Jeez, what am I supposed to do? I don't get it. See, I knew it was gonna be crap."

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

Now if Mario KILLED Sonic or Vice Versa (from a 1st person aspect of course) this game would get scores in the high 80's. And if you could online co-op kill other members from both characters game universes, we'd be talking low 90's.

Well, maybe mid 80's as it would not be in Ultra Realistic HD, and they would never have Mario or Sonic covered in blood.

I second the idea that they should have casual gamers do the casual game/party game reviews.

my friend got this game the day it came out and we played for a couple hours. it is pretty sweet. as a runner i wanted more track events like in athens 2004, which our xc team played a lot in college, but all the other stuff is fun too unlike athens. i can see it being fun to play for a while after you buy it single player, but obviously the real fun is in multiplayer. all the events i played were fun, and exhuasting. so much arm pain! the mission mode adds plenty of replay value as does the dream mode or whatever its called, and theres lots of events to unlock. we only unlocked one dream race but it was pretty sweet and this game is definitely an awesome multiplayer game and without doubt the best party game for the wii outside of wii sports.

my only gripes are i wish it had online play although the leaderboards are a nice addition, not enough running events for me(800 and 1500 woulda been awesome with a different and less insanely tiring control scheme obvoiusly), and the one dumb thing in the game is you can't break records (and therefore can't upload your records on the leaderboards) unless you are playing single event in one player. so if you are playing multiplayer no records will count and nothing will count while playing the mission mode. overall its a blast to play and if you are looking for a fun multiplayer game or a good family/party game there is nothing better than this!

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

I'm on the fence on this one.

Correction: I WILL buy it because it's Mario + Sonic. Now, will I enjoy it?
Gamerankings says 67% (only 4 reviews so far though.)

Oh well, it will probably be a gift purchase anyway, since SMG + Fire Emblem will eat all my time.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

 LOL.

"Mario and Sonic at the BLOODBATH!"

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

The game is very fun i got it today, very good graphics, the sound is kinda meh, controls are responsive most of the time and the multiplayer is AWESOME. I recommend it!!

Like I said earlier, if Nintendo or Sega invest some money into advertising this game DURING THE OLYMPICS, I think it will catch on and sell really well.
