Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 record launch in France - 78,000 in two days!

http://www.cnetfrance.fr/news/home-c...s3-de-sony.htm 78000 in two days, record launch. 100,000 were shipped at launch and CNET expect there will be shortages soon. Second biggest market. Spain was third biggest region, Germany fourth. Wii 75,000 360 49,000 PS2 63,000 (24% less than PS3) It is Sony's figure, and they give 173k for the UK (close enough to Chart-tracks estimate), so its probably also going to be consistent with independent trackers.

And Sony also said it they sold 600k consoles in europe the first to days... Remember Nintendo saying they sold 600k Wii in the US and they just sold 400k? Don´t believe ANY gaming company if it comes down to hardware sales. Let´s wait for some "real" numbers and don´t take Sony´s... maybe they shipped 78k to france... you know what I mean?

Don't cry EDIT: I suppose this "real" numbers should be much lower to satisfy you

Sounds good, next time have a better party anyway... does this mean: USA = xbox360 Japan = Wii EU = PS3? Can be a fun war

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

anyway... does this mean: USA = xbox360 Japan = Wii EU = PS3? Can be a fun war --------- No it means it's extremely early in the day in all regions.

Too early to call for Europe. Now we wait whether this continues or demand sharply falls inline like with the other two region. I bet it does.

I reckon in the end the three will be almost identical in sales , and that is not a bad thing if all sell well and make profits in the end even if it takes ages for sony will mean better choice next gen . i do not want just two companies vying for domination thats way too boring and limits choice even though i loathe Microsoft i still wish them well this gen .

Proud owner of Ps4/3ds xl/pc/vita/wii u and others.

The one thing a lot of Sony fans need to remember is that, since the PS3 didn't sell out there is very little of the pent up initial demand left; this means that sales in April and May (and for the rest of the year) will be based on how many people want a PS3 at its current price with the games it currently has available. In contrast the Wii (since it isn't readily available) still has people looking for it who simply want a 'Wii'. After the Holiday season the chart could be USA= XBox 360/Wii Japan= Wii Europe XBox 360/Wii And by the middle of 2008 it could be USA = Wii Japan = Wii Europe = Wii

What's a better sign of demand, selling 75k of 75k or selling 78k of 100k?

Nope, not gonna happen. There is always a clear winner. Even if one fails, I'm sure another company will enter the race because of the chasm left by the loser. Google, Dell, Apple, HP or even EA all have the resources to launch their own hardware. Sega bowing out and Microsoft stepping in is a recent example.
