Saying 2nd is wishful thinking.

Saying 1st is downright delusional at this point.

X360 cannot stay #2 with just America alone.

Probably not, but who's to say it can't reclaim Europe? It's done it once before already when PS3 looked like it was set to dominate th reigon for good.

I'm pretty sure it will eventually pull off second, the momentum is clearly with it... but you never know for sure. Xbox 360 seems to have already exhausted all of its options...

How so?

360 is running at profit while PS3 is running at a loss. Meaning if Microsoft want to they could decrease the price of the 360. WHich they will obviously do at somepoint in 2010. Add to that they have Natal which the industry buzz about is very high. If Microsoft changes its image from being aimed at hardcore fans to casual fans ala Nintendo then that will help them to sell more. As i mentioned above even with the price cut and new model the PS3 is still selling 3rd in the 2 biggest games markets in US and UK. At somepoint that will start to factor as numbers start to decrease. What happens at the end of the year for holidays 2010 will have the most importance such is the trend of the past few years. The 360 will get a price cut and a new tool in Natal. On top of that will have Halo Reach which will most likely be the biggest selling game of 2010 on a single console and potentially other games like Gears 3 and Fable 3.

Point being in terms of options Sony are the ones who have run out. They played their last card by bringing out a new console and price cut. And they had to do that because they were getting destroyed sales wise. We have now had the Final Fantasy release in Japan which is the most important game in Japan for the PS3. The effects of that release in comparison to previous versions was not as good. Now FF13 will be released around the rest of the world where it is also on 360. Meaning the exclusive sales it would of had have been probably halved.

From an analysts point of view Microsoft have played it perfect. They allow Sony to have this holiday simply because they are millions ahead of them. They concentrate on the games that would increase the PS3's momentum i.e if FF13 stayed exclusive that would help sell loads of PS3's. And Metal Gear Solid also goes multi-platform meaning again less sales for PS3 as people who already have a 360 will not buy a PS3 to play it.

So soon as GT5 and GOW3 have come and gone the future releases this year for the PS3 look pretty bleak in comparison to as i said games like Halo reach etc..

History shows momentum shifts from actions to actions. When PS3 cut it's price in 2007 the same thing happened as now. Then 360 cut it's price and took over again. That pattern will continue. Just the next price cut will see a very cheap 360 go against a still expensive PS3. In UK it would mean a 399 360 vs a £250 PS3. In UK the 360 is already outselling the PS3. If you then make the 360 £99 it will destroy the £250 PS3.

So right now the momentum is with the PS3, simply because of it's price cut. Just as previously it was the same with the 360. But Microsoft have the ball in their court now, they have lot's of options on how to combat the momentum shift. And they are playing the waiting game. Just as they did in 08. They will play their ace cards at the end of the year just as they have always done.

your whole text is filled with fanboysim and MS will be the one to be forced to sell at a very low price with no profit

Where is there fanboyism in what i said? The question was where do you think PS3 will end up was it not? Have i not provided enough opinion to show why i think it will finish 3rd? As far as i can tell i have offered facts mixed with analytical prediction based off of current history.

To simply state PS3 will finish 2nd without adding reason is fanboyism. As i mentioned in my first post. If people think PS3 will finish 2nd based on Japan currently selling at it it's current numbers then they are deluded. Things will change in the next 12 months, that is fact. The question is will those changes result in the 360 outselling the PS3? As i mentioned if the 360 is already outselling PS3 off of the back of a new model and price cut in US and UK how many more additional sales will it generate from another price cut?

What you said could be interpruted as fanboyism simply because you state "forced to sell". Implying nobody is interested in their product so they have to cut price just to compete. Which is of course bullshit considering as mentioned they are still outselling PS3 in the 2 biggest markets....

It has the UK and Australia too. PS3 will still outsell 360 worldwide for most of the year but not by as bigger margin that it has been during christmas. At around September/October is when we'll see if the momentum can shift, I think maybe Sony might save Gran Turismo for around that time to try and counter a possible price cut and to try and to get some media attention away from the inevitable Natal frenzy. (I'm not saying that the media frenzy will DEFINITELY translate into sales for 360 here)

I say the gap will be around 3 million by then and then we'll see who gets the upper hand then but 360 will at least start selling more initially. Anyway with Europe if you look at the sales individually they're very close in a lot of countries so they have a chance of reclaiming Europe possibly.

Actually they only started making a profit within the last year before the X360 price cut, it does not change the fact that their games division is still in the red, and the price cut they made put them back into losing profit again.

X360 is losing steam really fast and Sony still has lots of options left, seen as the PS3 Slim was never called the Slim (until it caught on), you could argue that tthey can make another model, and then they could have different coloured PS3's (they would sell loads), not to mention PS3 has overtaken X360 in europe now, it now has two of the three possible markets.

You are only looking at the first half of the year Sony will have a lot planned for christmas next year, enjoy X360's lead while it lasts, because it is going to dissappear real fast this year.

X360 only has another 2 possible price cuts (the cheapest it will get is £99), and it already has peaked for possible game engines,  and Natal is not going to help it out much imo, Natal will seal it's fate and PS3 shall get second

I won't go into detail. But will point out hw your logic is flawed. You state 360 is running out of steam. If that was true and the advantage was so in PS3 corner why has the PS3 failed to take over in the two biggest games markets on the planet? If what you say was true would that trend not be reflected there too?

And as for the profit/no profit info i suggest you go see the latest financial reports. In Microsofts last quarter (october 2009) 360 gaming division made $312 million PROFIT. How much PROFIT did Sony gaming division make for the last 3 months?

The PS3 will remain in last place, people who think otherwise are going to be very upset at the end of this generation.....

Probably not, but who's to say it can't reclaim Europe? It's done it once before already when PS3 looked like it was set to dominate th reigon for good.

Europe is traditionally Sony land (even tho it seems to love Nintendo more right now), once the PS3 became affordable the battle was already over

Eh, I wouldn't go there. They did buy the PS1 and PS2, which were probably the least reliable consoles of their respective gens.

Americans didn't buy the 360 in droves (even with the RRoD problem) because they have a higher tolerance for shoddy hardware. They did it because they have to in order to play games like Gears and Halo, which appeal more to Americans than they do for other regions.

It's ok I just got told off for that comment, both PS1 and PS2 had there problems, I will not carry on about other consoles though, as I am already in trouble. I was joking hence the lol in there, knew someone would take it seriously...

I believe that by the end of the generation the PS3 will be second, but it'll be 3rd during the entire period oof the generation that matters. The new Xbox 720 will probably be out for about a year when the PS3 surpasses the 360, and that really is a huge victory for Microsoft. Microsoft and Nintendo have gained way too much ground this generation for Sony to consider anything a victory at this point.
