Forums - Sony Discussion - I have lost all faith with the Sony brand

How people are able to just blindly cling to this insane platform is beyond me. Give me some inspiration. Why am I plunkering down 500 dollars to buy game I can pick up on a console $100 cheaper?

The new PS3 model is down to $400, and this holiday season finally has a strong lineup of topnotch multiplatform games. In case you need reasons:

1. BluRay (yes, it's glorious on a widescreen HDTV - worth the price of admission)

2. Ratchet and Clank.

3. Metal Gear Solid 4.

Case closed. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment with a lombax about some robots...

The PS3 should be doing a lot better in 08 than in 07. Why?

-The advantage of Home, the new venture that the PS3 is starting with its Video on Demand, allowing PS3 users to download movies, which means that Sony gets to sell Sony Pictures movies without having to pay somebody else for them like microsoft has to.

-The Blu-ray should be a lot more popular in 08 than it has been this year. Lower prices for players will increase demand according to the price curve. A healthy bluray market will allow sony to produce (better) games less expensively than they are now, because BD isn't that popular yet and the more units of BD made the costs of which will go down.

-As BD gets to be more popular the value/price mental equation that consumers bring with them to help them decide whether or not a particular item is worth purchasing or not, the value or numerator portion of this heuristic will increase, meaning that the PS3 will become a lot more popular.

-The 40g model of the PS3 is going to be a big help in the 2nd and 3rd world countries, heck its going to help Sony a lot in America as far as sales go because there are plenty of consumers out there that don't care about BC and just want a cheap console.

So, give the PS3 some time and I think that it will meet your expectations for a console within a matter of months.

I think people in 3rd world countries have a few more things to worry about than game consoles...

As for give it some time, that's been the typical excuse for the past year and it will continue to be the excuse for the next year.

Reggie said it best this morning (and is exactly what people were saying months ago when they though all the big PS3 games were going to come out): Pro-tip: The system that has won after the second holiday season in market has already won the console war!

um, MGS4 is not a even gonna come out anywhere near this holiday season.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

don't understand how a game that isn't out for atleast a couple of months closes this holiday season, and you can still get a 360 for 50 dollars less

plus ratchet and clank isn't and never will be Mario, especially not the first 3d mario game to feature the fireflower, seriously I wasn't going to pick up mario galaxy immediately until I saw that

and the 360 still has halo... not that I like it

Don't lose faith just yet! If it doesn't do good this holiday season and continues to sell low afterward then I guess you should just forget about the PS3. It doesn't look like there will be anything to make people run out and buy a PS3 though this holiday, and some of next years games might not sell well. Just look at Lair and Heavanly Sword for example. It also looks like R&C wont do as well a some predicted. Let's just hope next year will be a much better year for the PS3.

Bet with OriGin: Within 1 year Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be ahead of Mario Kart Wii (when aligning the one whole year from each region). 2 week ban from Vgchartz for the loser. Edit: Darn! Looks like OriGin will win.

If Blu Ray comes down to the same price as my HD-DVD player was ($99), I'd consider buying it.  That said, it wouldn't be a slam dunk because a big part of the reason I got this HD-DVD player is because it has a phenominal audio DAC and can therefore be used as a high end CD player, plus a high end upconvert DVD player (I had a crappy DVD player) *and* I can use it for HD-DVDs as an added bonus (I will be buying quite a few HD-DVDs).  So a BD player has /less/ than $99 value to me.

Listen dont give up.......within a year from now PS3 will be $300 and more affordable. Maybe then you can reconsider. The price will continue to plummet until it is affordable. When it is affordable a lot of games my come out for it.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

"and those are?"

Ratchet & Clank
Heavenly Sword
Folklore
Drake´s Fortune
MGS4
LittleBigPlanet
Gran Turismo 5
Infamous
White Knight Story
Tekken 6
FFXIII
Disgaea 3
Etc..

Ah, I see we've found another person that bought their console purely on potential.

To be honest, those of us that bought Wii was also on potential, except it was more tangible, and have now been realized somewhat (unless you are in PAL region, then you are more or less screwed)

Absolutely not true, I bought my Wii on current games or games coming out within a month or two:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Excite Truck
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Red Steel
Elebits
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Warioware: Smooth Moves

All those games were out or at least coming out within two months so they fit my above formula: 7 * $50 = $350 and since $350 > $250 I had plenty of reason to buy my Wii. Sure, Red Steel was a waste and DBZ could have been much better but I still actually had a selection of games I wanted. The fact other games I loved were coming out later was just something to look forward to while I played my current games.

Unlike those people that buy their console on potential and pick up games that could be interesting while waiting for the potential and then complain about the shitty games they've played or their console collecting dust, I'm actually having a good time playing my console with a nice selection at least equal to the price.

So call of Duty, Rainbow Six, Need For Speed Carbon, and Oblivion were bad games. Man I have bad taste..........

Now your just showing your fanboy colors buldog, resistance was good, but better than Halo 3? Just the simple design of the controllers makes it better on the 360.

Don't mistake my posts for fanboyism, the moment PS3 starts doing things right I will jump on the Sony bandwagon, they haven't yet, and not till late 08 apparently. Tell me why you believe that console is so much better? Give me solid reasons.

Oh ,so the 360 had a good year because Rainbow Six ,Need for Speed ,Call of Duty and Oblivion ?

Funny ,as the PS3 has had all those  games in its first year along many others (Resistence ,Ninja Gaiden Sigma ,The Darkness ,GRAW 2 ,Colin Mc Rae DIRT ,Folklore ) yet you consider it dissapointing .

Face it Alexie ,you are a fanboy and nothing more than a fanboy ,dont try to play the serious with us .
