I am confused, take a look at  this graph

You have a sales jump of 90,000 for the US in a week in November

While you have a 170,000 jump for PS3 in Japan in a week. And we can even see it compared to similair time last year.
Your assumption makes very little sense either percentage wise or physical total wise according to that graph.

Would you like to flesh it out a bit?

EDIT: Note for referance release date for MW2 - 11/10/09

I am using NPD's numbers and going by statements from both Microsoft and Sony.  I really enjoy this site but I know it's relatively young compared to other tracking services and is still getting some kinks out of it's methodology and likely working on making more retail contacts.  One thing I do get from public statements is that it seemed like Microsoft was quiet about its hardware sales (something it doesn't usually do unless it's behind) and suddenly things changed after the release of MW2.

So the increase in 360 sales in November were primarily because of MW2, not the Walmart deal and Black Friday?

The other thing to be aware of in the argument is that you are comparing a months worth of sales in the US against no data for a weeks worth of sales for Japan? How are you going to factor in these extra conditions such as Black Friday and so on?

No it didn't.

The game was heavily bundled, there was the wallmart deal and black friday. The US is also almost 3 times as big in Japan, yet the console boost for the week was roghly half week over week, not even taking into consideration the basic pricedifference... so no, I highly doubt that MW2, as a monster that is was even close such a big console mover in the US for the 360, as FFXIII was for the PS3 in Japan At least thats my opinion...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

True but that doesn't get down to the core of the argument that sequels in a series that have appeared on a console don't generally move much hardware.

While this statement is generally true, MW2 was univerally anticipated to be the biggest game of the year for 2009 in the US.

Did anyone NOT expect to see a hardware bump from this game?  That would be like not seeing a bump when the next Halo or Gears comes out.

No.

hard to answer ...

there was too much deal (wallmart / BF) to really know "how many console were sold du to MW2"

I remember someone saying that 90k of MW2 bundle were sold in NA at the release date

also, in your OP, it is funny that you ignore these special deals or even the Elite price cut but you still mention the 100$ price cut of the PS3 that has nothing to do with the MW2 release, it sounds like damage control to the insane PS3 sales ...

Time to Work !

FFXIII moved 150k PS3 bundles... so no question.

MW 2 release Date: November 10th 2009
XBox360 sales WORLDWIDE for the week November 7th to 14: 332,000 Xbox360 and the week before: 288,000
Final Fantasy XIII release date: December 17th 2009
PS3 sales in JAPAN for the week December 12th to 19th: 242,000 PS3 and the week before 76,000.

I mean from those numbers I am not even sure it moved more Xbox360 Worldwide than PS3 in Japan. This is if we are talking only about the week the game releases
