Isn't that the whole company? And not just the SCE part of Sony?

Yes it is Sony Corp that aims to be profitable by financial year ending 2011.

yes... but the gamming division by next year, they are almost breaking even, but they are making profits off, the whole playstation brand

That's not what Sony themselves said in their last financial report:

Massive losses in the networking division.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER? WE HAVE GAMES THAT COMING OUT AND SONY IS NOT SHUTTING DOWN THE SHOP. ARE YOU STILL BITTER THAT DREAMCAST FAILED? TELL ME SOMETHING NEW, ALWAYS TRYING TO POOP ON THE TREY....CHECK YO SELF

Sony has been predicting it's game business is about to turn profitable next year this entire generation. Doesn't seem very realistic and they have missed every time.

they predict it and they would be correct, if they didn't continue to cut the prices and kill their chance at profitability every single time. A $400 PS3 would actually be netting them a small profit compared to a loss.

This is why you always have to profit from the hardware at the start.

You NEVER know how often you'll have to drop prices, consumer demand isn't set in stone anymore. We're no longer in a path of linerarity with technology & gaming, with trends being easy to predict.

Profit from day one is the way to go now.
