Forums - Sony Discussion - The PSP Go was a MAJOR flop. We need to talk about it.

It simply is. I refuse to believe Sony is content with the the PSP Go only selling 64.4k since it's launch in October 1st in NA, and November 1 in Japan. As beautiful as it may be, the PSP Go just hasn't been a big deal. Why?...here's an excerpt from Wikipedia that i think sums it up nicely.

"Reviews of the PSP Go have criticised its pricing with Ars Technica calling it "way too expensive" and The Guardian stating that cost is the "biggest issue" facing the machine. Engadget points out that the Go costs only $50 less than the Playstation 3, which comes equipped with a Blu-ray player. Wired point out that the older PSP 3000 model is cheaper, whilst supporting UMDs and IGN states that the $50 price increase makes it a "hard sell". The lack of support for UMDs and the inability to transfer games bought on UMD onto the Go and the placement of the analog stick next to the d-pad has also been criticised. Reviewers also commented on how the change from a mini-USB port to a proprietary port means that hardware and cables bought for previous incarnations of the PSP are not compatible. The Go's screen has been positively received with Ars Technica calling the image "brilliant, sharp and clear", T3 state that "pictures and videos look great". The controls have received mixed reviews with The Times describing them as "instantly familiar" whereas CNET and Stuff call the position of the analog stick "awkward". The ability to use a PS3 controller was praised by the New Zealand Herald but Ars Technica criticised the need to connect the controller and Go to a PS3 for the process to work."

Your right Seraphic. I've always defended the PSP as a great purchase, and in my opinion a better portable experience than the Nintendo DS, and i've had my old PSP since a little after it's launch, and recently bought God Of War: Chains of Olympus. The PSP Go however...i just can't justify it. The hype for it was incredible, and it would've sold so well...but Sony missed the mark on some key features, and design flaws...that did it for me.

Sales would've benefited if sony gave it a similiar pricetag to the current playstation portable.

PSP go failed for two big reasons. Higher Price point then the regular PSP, and no plan to transfer UMD's to the go. The same exact reasons I passed on one, even though I want it.

Analogy:

Sept 09: Sony launch the PS3Slim at a higher price than the original, with no blu-ray but with a 500gb HDD. You have to buy download-only games and movies....

Anyone interested?

The psp go has the same pricetag as the launch playstation portable.

Put a touch screen and an accelerometer, and make the launch price the same as the 3000 SKU. That was all.

See what I don't get is why didn't Sony use the money spent making the Go and simply use that money on building the PSP2?

Since when did anyone ask for 'premium' model of the PSP?

of course it is a flop hign price in a ecomonic crisis 249 for a portable that inprison you with having content in digital form and only
sony thought that the world is ready for full digital era sorry , sony you thought wrong
well play station network, xbox live, Wii ware are all successful but in my opinion gamers are not ready for that instant change
