Forums - Sales Discussion - Will Natal boost hardware sales ?

both natal and the wand will need good software to back it up if either hopes to succeed.

Wii Fit

The Wii Balance Board was released as an accessory to be used with a specific game, that being Wii Fit.

It's not like Nintendo had a traditional controller-based scheme and then released Wii-Fit as a new control scheme in the middle of the generation.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

Actually hus there is plenty of buzz. All the analysts that cover the gaming industry have mentioned natal As a big deal for 2010. You don't have a problem with it having some buzz, do you?

The question that keeps coming back to me for natal, and sonys wand for that matter.... is what type of games or gameplay can you really do with them, that 1) nintendo isnt already doing perfectly well ( wii fit ) and 2) is really of interest to your core gamer.

The impression I always got of natal is that lots of space is required, its something exclusively for ppl who have their xbox in the living room. Seems more like a gimmick than anything that provides a needed gameplay function. Ok, so now someone will be able to make a X-fit workout game... and people will be able to wave their hands around a lot to select their movies or whatever... honestly I would rather tap left on the controller 5 times, or just use a regular remote.

It will have a gimmick factor, but I seriously have doubts that anyone will give it much thought 6 months after its release.

Same probably goes for PS wand, though the wand will likely be a lot less expensive, and if you can use it properly while sitting down like a wiimote, but with better precision - possibly we will see some software support. But I still have heavy doubts about its popularity, unless someone finally makes a friggen Star Wars game where you have full motion control over a lightsaber... but everyone thought we were going to see that on the wii, and it still hasnt happened so...

Natal will do about as well as Virtual Boy, and PS wand will do about as well as the powerglove.

Yeah, but who's catching that buzz? Do casuals listen to podcasts or see E3 videos or read analysts articles? That's the customer this is mainly aiming for so getting it hyped among people like us won't really do a whole lot in the long run. I'm getting an Elite myself in a few weeks but I don't want to waste my money on these silly motion controllers on the HD consoles, its not what they're about at all.

The irony of being called biased by one this site's most biased individuals. Never ceases to crack me up.

Well, at least I am not fake.

Man, now I think people are starting to hit Rol's weak spots.  >_>

This is just anectdotal, but still...

I've heard several (at least three, maybe more) of my friends that are not all that big gamers but still are gaming, and even at least one that doesn't game at all saying they are excited about natal, or at least giving me the feeling they are. It has also been in newspapers here in sweden, around the time they announced it at E3.

So based on this not very good information I have assumed that with the right advertising and the right overall marketing, coupled with killer games, it's more than likely to reach out even into the non-gamer audience.

This is invisible text!

Mainstream/casual interest for Natal won't start until the E3 hype hits. Right now it's mainly industry buzz, but analysts and publishers alike are already singing it's praises.

This in pretty notable contrast to Gem, which has basically no industry buzz and launches in just a few months.

Actions speak louder then words.

Buzz hype means nothing, Wii had SALES yet the 3rd partys pretty much turned their back on it.  Yet in a recession they will spend tens of millions developing new games for a new hardware ADD ON with NO user base and experimental controls.

lol

360 savior sure is going up agiast some hard conditions, i see no publisher dumb enough to take the risk on NAtal unless MS cuts them a 20million dollar cheque to do so.

Put away you bsbias bud and tell me where would any sane logical person risk millions of dollars on.  Wii with 63 million user base, a multi plat game on PS3/360 65 million user base or on a Natal 360.... 0 user base.  Anwser is easy to see.
