Ever since the launch of the PS3, the battle with the Xbox360 has been more of a price cut battle.
In this table we can see how the sales were affected by the systems price cut
Event | Time and length of Event | PS3 total (In Million) |
XBOX360 total (In Million) | Gap (In Million) |
PS3 launch (PS3 $500-$600) | November 2006 - November 2006 | 0 | 5.33 | 5.33 |
Before first PS3 price cut | November 2006 - November 2007 | 5.63 | 12.73 | 7.10 |
First PS3 price cut ($400) | November 2007 - September 2008 | 14.75 | 20.4 | 5.7 |
$200 Xbox360 Arcade | September 2008 - August 29 2009 | 23.44 | 31.63 | 8.10 |
Slim launch and Xbox Elite Price cut | September 2009 - December 19 2009 | 30.10 | 35.80 | 5.7 |
One intersting data from this table is that it tooks a $400 PS3 around 10 months to reduce a 7.10 Millions leads to 5.7 Millions and the $300 Slim took only 4 months to reduce a 8.10 Millions lead to 5.7 Millions lead
I have made a similar thread in the past. And I aslo want to thank "tedsteriscool" for suggesting me to use table if i ever do another one.
