Forums - Sales Discussion - MW2 vs NSMBWii - Sales competition

So this holiday season we have seen the release of two BIG games: Modern Warfare 2 and New Super Mario Bros Wii ( I know there are also others ). I've read so many people talking and comparing both games sales so I decided to make this thread where we can see who has sold the most. The current situation is the following:

GAME

SALES

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (XBOX 360+PS3)

12.11M

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (XBOX 360)

7.23M

NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII

5.22M

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (PS3)

4.88M

GAPS

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (XBOX 360) – NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII : 2.01M

NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII - CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (PS3) : 0.34M

CALL OF DUTY:MODERN WARFARE 2(XBOX 360) - CALL OF DUTY:MODERN WARFARE 2(PS3) : 2.35M

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 (XBOX 360+PS3) – NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII : 6.89M

On 24/12/09 Activision is the winner. I will update the tables next week.

Why is this thread here? It'll sell more than combine of them anyway.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Same here. It seems very unfair to have a multiplatform game vs. an exclusive.

so Reggie was right?

More than likely NSMB will outsell CODMW2 but DavidValbu was just showing the current comparison. I agree that it isn't fare to compare an exclusive to a multi-platform but if you were to compare install bases Wii is about equal to the HD twins. Not everybody owns a PS3 and a X360 so the game was targeting both the combined HD twin install base. Maybe a small few bought it for both but that number is not a factor.

Own: PSP, DS, Wii, PS3(20GB- Swapped w/500GB)

End of Year Sales Expectations for 2009 (Added December 23, 09):

Wii: 63 mil

PS3: 32 mil

Xbox360: 37 mil

Pretty good thread for keeping track of this because it has been made into such a big deal (mainly due to Reggie haha). Posting this as a marker for updates.

Not necessarily: the bet revolves around the NPD figures, which means it's about the U.S. only. And Call of Duty games have done very well in the U.S. in December, at least since Modern Warfare debuted.

I doubt Reggie nor many other people will care about the specific conditions you place on this bet when NSMBW outsells MW2 worldwide.

Worldwide sales after all are what matter most to these companies.

Should probbaly put some links to these in the OP.

American sales

Worldwide sales

America and Worldwide graphs there.
NSMB has already passed the PS3 version Worldwide, and with the next data will pass it for Americas.

It looks like it could pass the X360 version Worldwide with just 3 more weeks, but if not then 4 weeks.
For passing the X360 version in America it is going to take at least 10 more weeks I believe, possibly 15-20 weeks.

Fully granted, although we both know that for one day The Internet will very much care if he loses.
