Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ubisoft Want To Make...A JRPG?

Why?

I really don't understand these western companies wanting to break in the Japanese market. I don't. It's high risk and not enough payoff. Western market is not only easier to work with, but will probably make you more money.

You know who gets the Japanese market? Japanese people. Let them handle it.

Sudeki is more actiony, fast paced, and doesn't look like a JRPG at all, its more cartoony along the lines of WoW and Aion.

So you're saying Star Ocean and Tales aren't JRPG's since they are fast paced action RPG's ???

I've played a ton of JRPG's over the years, and I don't see what makes Sudeki any different. It's art style is clearly anime/JRPG/asian inspired even if you think it's "cartoony", just look at the size of the characters eyes. Besides, would you say that Kingdom Hearts isn't a JRPG because of it's fast paced action and Disney artwork ?

Somehow, I see a western dev making a JRPG as a fairly obvious bad idea.  JRPGs arent exactly increasing their market these days and I don't see that trend reversing.

I give this thread a 9.5.

it said no where in there about a JRPG. nice try.
It would be a stupid buisness move on their part... I'm just surprised they haven't released many WRPGs. Well, they are due, and they are even saying so, so it's a no brainer.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Japan won't buy a JRPG made by the west. Ubisoft is crazy for even thinking they could make one that sells as much as Dragon Quest.

how would you know? did a JRPG ever been made by western devs? (if you know any tell me i would like to check it out!)

i know alot of WRPGs made by japan though.

Septerra Core definitely qualifies; it plays almost exactly like a traditional JRPG. There's also Anachronox; I've never played it, but I've heard it described as a JRPG. It was inspired by Chrono Trigger and maintains a small cult following to this day.

Nope, I am a figment of my own imagination created to annoy myself.

I give that post a 9.6.

Sudeki on the Xbox:

...and maybe Venetica on the 360:

I guess both could be considered western made JRPG's. Although Venetica appears to be more of a cross between an RGP and a Zelda style adventure.

those games are as much JRPG as fable.

I am a Hardcore JRPG junkie and I would NEVER give those anything but a glimpse.... so I KNO for 4 damn sure the Japanese wouldn't
