Man, I've been hearing alot of great things about FFXIII from people who are playing it. There are of course some negative impressions as well but that is to be expected from a FF game.

If you are hearing more great than bad things, that's a good thing IMO.

Yeah, I'm hearing more good then bad. The only problems people seem to be having with FFXIII is that it's extremely linear and to some, the dialog is very corny (but that is mostly due to the Japanese-y terms and stuff that will most likely be altered when it's localized for the NA/EU). So pretty much, if you like you jrpgs story-driven (to the extreme) then you will have no problem with the linear direction FFXIII has taken. Also, the enjoyment of the storyline for the people in the NA/EU will be based on how SE localizes FFXIII's Japanese-y lines and terms which is said by some to be VERY corny. Lets hope SE really americanizes FFXIII, because if they don't...........

What japanese-y terms?   If they mean rushi and farushi, that's just how the Japanese pronounce l'cie and fal'cie, respectively.

I dont care what ppl say. day 1 purchase for me

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I didnt manage to resist, and watched some live stream...heheheh...some spoilers ahead....

Well, it is linear, for many hours, but when it opens, it open WIDE (by what I saw)!
People can die (constantly!) by simple mobs, this game isnt forgiving, if you dont grind/play it with some strategy you get killed in seconds! Bosses that make you try it four five times are quite common...so there are some complains about that...
Grinding/leveling up is all about the improved grid sphere (its quite like it), so there is you leveling up, plus you can do it with your weapons also, those will get you some special status and such...more on when you are in the open wild....

So, people complains because no one will ever be completely satisfied anyway.

Hardly any towns? Are you sure? I like towns... :(
I don't hate FFXIII, it's hard to hate something I haven't played, but I don't like the lack of Amano's character design. FFXIII isn't the only FF that lacks that though.

I like towns as well.   I hope that this is off by a little bit.

The Final Fantasy 13 reviews from this jp site are incredible

http://review.rakuten.co.jp/rd/2_213310_13271535_0/

Everyone does realize that when this game comes out in the 'west', all the opinions of the west' will be the near complete opposite of Japan. They always are. So its pointless to speculate about the game now based on the Japanese launch of the game. Based on the Japanese opinion, the Japanese audio, Japanese reviews, etc.

At best, this game will have similar hype in the west (though I highly doubt it). But you will all go through this entire process again when the game comes out in your respective regions yet again as well as have completely different views of what makes the game good or bad as your Japanese counterparts.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Just watched some of the walkthrough video's... as a huge FF fan... I feel I won't be missing anything by not having this game. There are some really nice set pieces for backgrounds but the rest of the game looks like an up ress'd PS2 game. Not that the PS2 games didn't look great or maybe they looked too good which makes this look not so good compared to what Square had been showing in screen shots.

Do you guys prefer the futuristic FF entries? I don't... I liked FF8 but hated 10 and didn't find a lot to love in 7. I really liked FF9 but preferred FF4 and FF6. I haven't even played FF12 yet, even though it's sitting on my desk beside me (and has been since it was released).

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

i pre ordered final fantasy 13 long ago. now after watching some youtube videos i think its lame.

so Chocobo and cid are in the game right. final fantasy always have these characters in all their series that whats makes it final fantasy. i been looking foward 2 this game for awhile now hope they did a good job. I love number 8, 12. 10 was my least favorite it was the only one that i didn't complete. It had to be blitzball theme and Wakka the character i liked benders voice. i just found them stereotyping hawaiians and i found it racist from sq that they think all Hawaiians talk like dat why don't make him do the hang loose sign while they are at it. dude whats up with the black character in this game why don't they just give him a biga@@ afro and make him sound like chris tuck with his whinning arse voice square seems to stereotype a lot of different racists. Just as long it doesn't have blitzball then i am one happy camper. blitzball come on man what were they thinking horrible
