So far so good, I'm 5 hours into the game, the story is pretty good so far and it has that Square Enix cinematic touch, boasting impressive visuals and great cut scenes. The size and scale is impressive, you'll have pretty big areas with really nice detail, and a nice shadow engine though not the real time lighting effects of some other Wii games but its forgivable since it looks really good in motion you really don't notice.
Gameplay is a mixed bag, seriously, you have so many things going on its really mixed up. At first it's hitting you left and right with different game modes basically, at first you're falling from the sky shooting birds out of the sky SHUMP style, then you're flying the airship through a canyon, then you finally make it to a city and control your character on foot only to be chased out and do a chocabo scene throwing people around, then you finally get a chance to play the normal gameplay after all of that. The other modes aren't that deep so it makes things a little odd cause nothing really hooks you other than the story and humor to begin with.
But eventually you get to the first real big boss fight and it is epic, that's when you start seeing how the gameplay can change up and take a bit of work/timing to get down the little nuances of the game. Add to this there are way more other things to do in the game a lot of which you can get high scores doing.
The only issues I have with the game is that I do wish I have a basic melee attack, nothing major, just a press A to smack the enemy. And most of the NPCs you can't talk to, the ones with important things to say are there so you don't get a bunch of garbage text like most JRPGs where the NPCs tell you nothing and are just there to be there, in turn you have NPCs that run around doing certain actions. You'll have Selkies that will run around kicking crap to annoy guards, or kids/women that follow you around with hearts around them, and have guards that run away, so while you don't get to hear what they say the world is alive around you, odd concept and I do wish a few more NPCs talked but its minor in my mind.
