Forums - Sony Discussion - Why Blu-Ray is bad for the PS3

Wow all out failure right of the bat.

Why even make this if you can't look at it from a unbiased view to make a decent pro Br argument ?

Juts a hater thread in disguise, lock delete whatever.

It's all about "quick buck" vs. "long run." If you can't see that, your blind.

Sony decided to lose third party developers short run "Quick Bucks" in order to ensure they would leave Sony in the "Long Run"?

The #1 reason why the Playstation and PS2 were so successful was that they took the lead early on, used that lead to attract third party publishers, and moved into a dominant position because they had all of the games. This industry does not support a long run scenario

You know that's not what I meant and your trolling.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

A little late, but good luck.

Anyways, the fact is that the point about Heavenly Sword is valid ... You can't claim that Blu-Ray is needed for long in-depth games when the longest and most in-depth game avaiable for the PS3 was released for the XBox 360 on a single DVD (Oblivion).

That's a terrible point, it just doesnt work like that.

Oblivion uses a lot of what i'd say is just wasting time, it ltakes a lot of time by making things longer than they should take, 6 hours on an action game need a lot more developing work than 6 hours on a game like oblivion, the thing is that in a game like heavenly sword, you see a lot of different things in just a few seconds, in oblivion, going from one place to another takes a while and you are just seeing the same stuff over and over again.

This is a common mistake, just because the game is longer and has larger envirements doesnt mean it needs more space on a disc, they simply use the same models over and over again.

I agree Kamahl that Oblivion has a lot of dead weight and empty space to increase it's length. That's why I dislike the game. However, you still cannot deny that a game with a lot of unique content like Twilight Princess (35-40 hours) fitting on a 1.5GB GC disc shows that with effective compression techniques game length is not nearly as limited by disc space as Sony would like us to believe. Games like Tales of Symphonia were dozens of hours long and only had to use 2 of those 1.5GB GC discs.

Starcraft, you thread instantly failed when you said the ps3 doesn't come close to the best standalone Blu-Ray players. It's the best player on the market right now, and keeps getting better with every firmware update. BD-J 1.1 should be coming with update 2.0.

Just because the ps2 was a crappy DVD player doesn't mean the ps3 is a crappy Blu-Ray player.  Sony bet the format war on this beast, so why would they make it a shoddy Blu-Ray player?

35-40 hours?  What'd you do, rush through everything?  It took me well upwards of 50.

Of course, I'm the type that talks to every single person I meet in the game...twice. :P

I actually got 100% completion in 40 hours (all heart containers, bottles, items, etc.) with no FAQ. I'm really fast at Zelda games though... I play ALL of them and by this point I'm familiar with most puzzle structures.

the main story only took me 30 hours :( oh so short..

on topic, from a gaming point of view it might not seem like sense, however blu-ray is in the position its in right now mostly due to the ps3.

lol man when we start calling 30 hours short... the 360 and PS3 are going to be in trouble haha. Honestly, I don't like my single player games to be under 15 hours and my multiplayer games to be under 10. That's pretty much my standard. Of course large amounts of replayability can make this vary, but that's how I judge most games.
