Forums - Gaming Discussion - Insomniac's Brian Hastings speaks out on the PS3

I just wanna say... Looking at these numbers, and reviewing them... I think the PS2 will win this generation. It keeps selling like heroin to a attic. The more PS2s that blow up, the more people buy. I expect the PS2 to sell around 130million worldwide before it's demise... most likely towards the end of 2009 or even 2010. I think the PS2 will continue to outsell the 360 Wii, and PS3 untill Next-gen home hardware (HDTV) is more readily avaliable. The PS2 is easily the best choice out of the box.

You do realize that the PS2 is rapidly dying in Japan and is being steadily outsold by the Wii in North America (and possibly Europe)?

Stromprophet said: I think the only figure I would repeat is the 55 million HD Sets was reported by the CEO of a company making HD sets as the market for 2007. This was on CNBC which I watch regularly for market news. Remember these 55 million sets go in mnay more rooms nowadays than just the living room, and include small sets and large sets. So obviously "half" (which it's not more than half, 115 million US households) would not all have to be buying sets. Regardless, last year HD sets outsold SD sets so that's where the trend is headed in the US.
In my other thread, I show how there have been about 35million HDTVs sold in america, with 10% of people being repeat buying, thus leaving 32.5million households with a HDTV. Which comes out to roughly 25% of american households have HDTV. 2007 is the year people will be buying HDTV. I expect close to 40-50% households by then. (I expect it to take roughly 20-40years for HDTVs to pass SDTVs produced tho... since that is just a blink in the eye of SDTVs life.

You do realise a fad can sell 24million products in a 12month period... even when it is totally useless.

But for the moment the fad is outselling PS2. Now I do belive that PS2 will make a great year world wide, but Wii is selling better now. If the fad also succed in selling 24 million in 12 months (which I doubt because manufactory issues at least) there will be a lot of games. I mean it wont just die. I mean DS and brain age were also seen as a fad, it is still kicking. So don't underestimate the fad.

How many $250 fads can you mention? I've heard that $60 - $100 is the upper limits of most peoples impulse purchases, with $20-30 being a more typical figure -- Furby was around 30 if I remember corectly. Now some people will blow 250 to get a tickle me elmo or the like, but it can hardly account for hundreds of thousands, let alone millions, in sales.

good point. seriously, if the wii is a fad, then so are the other consoles. the wii can be just like them except a little less graphically, its not just motionsensitivity. im about sick of saying this. the wii is like the other consoles, except it has more to it. therefor it cant be a dieing fad ever unless all the other consoles die as well. plus look at people downloading classic games on the wii. most of those people are downloading games they already have, and i bet back then people said videogames were just a fad, yet today not only is the videogame industry taking over the world, but people are paying money to download those same age old games that started it all. go ahead and call the wii a fad, its easy to do for now. forget about the fact that is can be exactly like the other consoles, ESPECIALLY thanks to the classic control. yea, forget all that, call it a fad. no one can give solid evidence to disprove that, so its easy way out rather than argueing the facts. here are the facts, the wii is dominating and it can be and is just like the other consoles, only has more to it. thats all sony fans argue anymore, in the future, graphics.. blah blah blah, lets talk about now. o, and BTW, im never going to get tired of playing madden on the wii with the way it works, moving the controller in certain ways to do stuff. madden got a higher rating on the wii than the other consoles and sold more than them too. im never going to get tired of slashing with the wiimote to use swords. im never going to get tired of ussing the wiimote as a steering wheel on driving games. AND I AM DEFINATLY NEVER EVER GOING TO MISS USING AN ANALOG STICK TO AIM ON SHOOTERS AS OPPOSED TO DOING SIMILAR TO REAL LIFE... JUST POINT AND SHOOT. all that stuff is easily, more natural, and for most who are willing to admit it, MORE FUN. and isnt that the important thing?

A delayed game is good someday, a bad game is bad forever.

I like the gun on the NES better than the wii-mote pointer. Too much lag. I hate the lack of a 2nd analog stick. Tilting a controller to turn is not more realistic, pointing your gun off to the side to turn, is not more realistic. It is just another way to do something fake. I see it like that. I personally perfer the responce time on a joystick. I've never been a fond keyboard/mouse person, I play games with joysticks if I can. Speaking of realism. Flight games on the wii are amazing... The realisim. Tilt the controller just like the plane would tilt... wait. Why arent we useing a joystick? I know, The Wii is beyond realism.

Yeah I got to admit pointing and shooting in Red Steel was a hell of a lot more natural feeling to me. When I go shooting I often hold my hand compleatly stil and watch my wrist do all kinds of goofy stuff. The response is uber realistic, so much so that I felt I was in a paralel world. Really though Red Steel is a joke Medal of Honor Vangard was a joke so Itraded that in for the PS2 version. The Wii has lost its FPS credability with me and I can only hope that Samus can change that, but its wait and see right now. At this point in this gen Resistance is the best shooter out and only Halo and Killzone can take that from what I have experianced.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Narfer, check out Godfather : Blackhand Edition for Wii, seems EA hit the controls on that one as well. A lot of people are loving it.

chibcicylist Wow, I just got this game from Gamefly. Wow. I am another convert. I can't see GTA style button controls surviving after this. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm actually having fun with this thing. Graphics sucks, that I know but it's all about the garote wires, choking your victims and slamming them on the wall. I'm impressed. My dad, who loves GTA can't watch me playing it and actually told me to stop choking women in the game. Lawl.
