Forums - PC Discussion - Good strategy games

I'm starting to find myself running out of good strategy games to play, both RTS and TBS.

I've played Civ IV and Advance Wars for my TBS gaming.

I've played World in Conflict and Total War games for my RTS gaming.

Have I missed anything?  Is there any RTS/TBS strategy games that can beat any of those.  Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Secondary question, is Napoleon Total War really any different than Empire: Total War?  Didn't they happen in the same time period?

Heroes of Might and Magic III is the best strategy game of all time (or at least tied with Starcraft) so if you never played that gem you might want to try it out.

What he said plus Warcraft (the whole series, though I and II may seem a bit archaic now, proabably best to come back to them if when you fall in love with the third).

If, however, you're looking for something perhaps more fresh, Sins of a Solar Empire was great. Certainly a bit different, but great.

Yes! This great Hex TBS - sadly neglected by the press: http://www.amazon.com/Panzer-Tactics-Nintendo-DS/dp/B000TU4M4Q/
The Name is Panzer Tactics and it's very similar to Panzer General: It's more challenging than Advance Wars but that's not really a bad thing. You can play Germans, Russians and Americans.
It also has WiFi so if you have it, we can set up a date :) (the game is from 2007 so the Lobby is quite empty...)

Try some Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Empire Earth, Starcraft, Warcraft, Rise of Nations, Command & Conquer, Red Alert.

Or try Plants Vs. Zombies, SimCity 4, Rollercoaster Tycoon

Napoleon Total War continues where Empire ended I suppose. End 18th century, start 1800s. Shouldn't be so different though.

Europa Universalis 3
Hearts of Iron 3

Take a look at most of Paradox games if you interested, most of them have a time limited demo you can try as well.

http://paradoxplaza.com/ is the website http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/ is their store but you can find most of their games on Steam and Impulse at varying prices

Turn-based Strategy

King's Bounty The Legend (similar to HoMM, rt movement, tb battles)

Fantasy Wars (ignore the cartoon graphics, enjoy the challenging battles)

Strategic Command (hardcore WW2 strategy)

Galactic Civilizations II (scifi grand strategy like Master of Orion)

Real Time Strategy

Rise of Nations (mix of Civ+Age of Empires)

Paraworld (one of the most underrated RTS)

Look no further than Starcraft

That's about as likely as me playing by somebody elses rules, which I would never do. I only play by my own rules, nobody elses...not even my own.

besides Fantasy Wars there's Elven Legacy which is the sequel, and its 3 expansions.

I recommend Europa Universalis 3 too, which has 2 great expansions and another one coming out tomorrow. there's also Europa Universalis: Rome (with one expansion) which is also great.

another good TBS is Sword of the Stars (this one has 3 expansions but you can get the whole pack with a good price), which is a space strategy game focused on combat, with 6 races that play very different from each other, the research tree varies in each game (some technologies are simply not available) and you can design your own ships too.

on the RTS side there's Men of War and Sins of a Solar Empire

as you can see from the other posts too, there are A LOT OF strategy games out there lol

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
