Forums - Sony Discussion - Does the original PS3 have an pre determined life cycle??

Ok, before you label this as flaimbait, may I just start off by saying I am a very Proud supporter of Sony and their products and they normally all are so reliable, but recently I have noticed lots of failure posts about original PS3's failing.

Unfortunatley, quite a few origianl PS3's have been failing from either YLOD or Blu-ray drive failures, which makes me think more and more about wheter maybe Sony had put a pre determined lifecycle on these things, as I never have had any problems myself before and I have always looked after my consoles, but even my PS3 is having major problems and I am replacing it with a Slim.

If indeed Sony did do this, they would know for sure they would get extra sales as a boost from failures, anyway feel free to discuss.

I'd say no. I mean everything will break some day, but mine is chugging along just fine.

as you said "a few". if the counter exist, i don't believe you would say "a few" but "all of them".

Compare to XBOX dead red ring, PS3 failure rate is rarely occur.

Please retitle your topic into XBOX have many many failure machine and you will have many many people agree on you.

There is really no point for Sony to do that. They make a loss with every system they sell so they don't want that customers buy second PS3.

nope, also if it did when people test the products before they go on market (cant rember the name) they would have found what ever chip or thing that made it go wrong, hardly any PS3's break its just we are on a gaming site with alot of PS3 owners

also @ Kowenicki - he is on topic he is comparing the two systems through Failure rate, 360 does have a huge failure rate so YES people will talk about it lol

That is what I used to think as well, before my PS3 started playing up on me, and I have looked after it really well, so in my case it cannot be down to the user.

Please people remember to state your reasons as well as saying yes or no.

Also remember that Sony used to lose money on the original PS3 as well, it is better to lose a small amout of money then lose everything right, so in my point of view, more sales would be welcome, finally most of the PS3's that do break also conviently break outside of warraty.

you got me all wrong I love Sony and have supported them since the PS1 days, but i was just thinking there are alot of coincedences going on here lately between PS3 breakdowns.

maybe not all of them like you say, but none the less it does make you think.

Edit: if you don't believe me then ask kowenicki how much of a ps3 fangirl i have been previously.
