Forums - Sony Discussion - Where should I start the God of War series?

So I've tried to get into this series some 5 or 6 times. Never successfully. I get about an hour into each game then get bored and wander off and never come back. I've done with with GoW, GoW2, and Chains of Olympus. I'm comitted to at least getting 2 hours into one game, but where would I be best starting off? Should I start with Chains of Olympus, since it's the first game by timeline? God of War 1 in the God of War Collection? Or should I just wait till God of War 3? Somehow I doubt I'm missing much by skipping plot development.

umm yeah, play GOW1 then 2 then chains of olympus then finally 3, i dont see how you can get bored of them, but hey, were different gamerz right?

I have had exactly the same experience. Only I vowed never to play again, rather than committing myself to getting more playtime.

My suggestion would be to skip it all. Just put it on the shelf and ignore it. I know that's not what you were asking for though, so I guess my response is useless :( I'm just happy to have met someone with the same experience.

I'm going to start with 3. Don't feel like buying the first two... If you can't get into the first few maybe you should wait for the 3rd as well.

Hm, well, I guess I'd go with the chronological order, but... maybe you should just give up, I mean, if you've tried 'em all, and your only goal is to get 2 hrs into a game, never finishing it, then... why start? Or is that a weird question.

As someone who grew up on RPGs I feel I owe games at least 2 or 3 hours before judging them worth playing. I feel like only giving each game 1 I've never really given it the chance to click with me that I would most games, but I want to make sure I start with the best possible beginning.

I see. Well, I played the 1st 2 games, and out of those, the original would obviously be the best to start with. Then again, I've never played COTO, but if that's supposed to come before GOW1, then why not pick that one. That's what I'd do.

The story in the first hasn't been matched yet, but the 2nd one is better to me. Naz, there are part in the second one that take your breath away, I couldn't believe i was playing on the PS2.

First one, first one, first one. I hope you didn't spoil the story... you probably already did, but man is the 1st one amazing.

Not really... I have the general idea, but not much more than that. Something about the gods killing his family and pissing him off and so he kills them. Didn't seem real deep...
