Plus, I'm pretty sure they were offering 5 free (crappy) Blu-Ray movies with the other versions just a month or two ago

what a danm deal!!!!!!!! I would so get it, just i want BC is all, so ill probably get a ps3 end of next year.

It seems both sides (format war) are going all out, both are offering 5 free High def dvds with purchase.

Would it be possible to print that out, go to best buy do the "match anyones price bit" and possibly exchange the 5 movies worth for games.

It's not. The movies are a mail in deal done exclusively through Sony. My friend got a 60 gig and there's a specific selection of movies to choose from. Most of them are crap ones that haven't sold and Sony has huge stockpiles of, but I'm pretty sure some of them are at least entertaining. Either way, its like a 120 dollar value? I'm not really up on the high-def DVD prices as I have no high-def TV.

no way man. not even that will make me get a gimped 40gig. if i ever get a ps3, im getten a 80gig

that's still a helluva deal... i haven't played a PS2 game since april, and i don't see it happening any time soon.

btw the 40GB was tested by a big german hardware magazine( c't ) and they found out ,that it uses far less power (120-135 watt vs 160-200 watt of the 60GB sku) and is even more quiet (0.5 - 0.8 sone vs 1.3 - 1.5 sone ) with only 2 fan speeds instead of 3 (the third one on the old model was quite loud)

am i the only one who really likes "The Patriot"?
how can anyone call that movie crap?

i hope the remaining 60Gb version gets the same deal.

Which is exactly the reason I've been seriously mulling over getting my parents a 40G and another for my brother/sister-in-law/niece this Christmas instead of the 60. My older brother is a gamer, but doesn't have much in the line of PS2 games and they can both use it to watch movies/DVDs upscaled. My parents loved the photo viewing and BD playback. Other than that, I was going to get them both Eye Toys so we can keep in touch and my I can see my parents and my 21 month old niece more than a few times a year since it allows for "video conferencing."

 The Patriot wan't bad.  But I like that type of movie.
