Also @Ghutto and @SaviorX -- What negative news has been coming out about this game?

The realization that it isn't an FFXIII port or a Final Fantasy game for that matter, is it.  I've seen people arguing over the length, but if they played any other Crystal Chroncile game they would know very well how it fits in. Mostly it is people angry that it isn't the "super-customizable final fantasy uber rpg" that they wanted.

I saw the comment about 15 hours -- that's two to three play throughs of Heavenly Sword.

Not every game is going to be epic 50 plus hour length. If it has replayability, 15 hours is good.

Mike from Morgantown

15 hour game at $50 is $3.33 per hour

90 minute movie at $8 ticket is $5.33 per hour.

Which is the better entertainment value?

Updated to add some more text from the review.

I got my copy of Game Informer Magazine today, and saw that they had reviewed The Crystal Bearers, and gave it a score of a 5.5. I was very surprised by the low score and the text of the review was failry short so there is not a lot of details about why they thought the game was so bad. But overall they said that Crystal Bearers is a generic action game with poor controls, and has a predictable and cliched story.

The reviewer did say that they weren't fans of the Crystal Chronicles series to start with so they may have gone in with a negative attitude, but I was still surprised how a big name game that has been in development so long could get such a low review. What were other people expecting review wise for the game, and does this review effect your excitement for its release?

I'm not going to type out the entire review, but here is the text of the category summaries.

Concept - Put the final nail in the Crystal Chronicles coffin [I Hope]

Graphics - Environmental textures are bland and repetitive, but the characters and enemies are some of the best looking things you'll see on the Wii.

Sound - I can't blame the voice actors for the terrible delivery. No one could make dialogue this bad sound good.

Playability - Some sequences are less aggravating than others, but nothing actually controls well

Entertainment - The only fun I had was terrorizing townspeople with my powers. That gets old after a few minutes, leaving you with nothing.

Replay - Low

Sounds like the person went in with biases against the series, against SD display, and against controllers without two sticks.

I will wait for more information.

I know lots of people assume Nintendo power is biased, but they gave it an 8, which is higher than the scores they gave ring of fates (7) and echoes of time (6.5).

Game informer has a clear anti-nintendo, or at least anti-wii bias so I wouldn't reccomend trusting reviews for any Wii games from them, though I wouldn't reccomend trusting reviews from one source in general.

I'll try and paraphrase the NP text later.

OUCH!!!

Well, I won the battle with Trestrestres, this game did come to the Wii, it was real, but if Japan is anything to go by then it's probably meh.

As for the review why even care?

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Here's some of the points the Nintendo Power review makes:

  • game is very original and creative
  • monster design is fantastic and well thought out
  • graphics are great
  • story is underdeveloped, but the characters are very likable
  • Much of the content in the game is optional, and there's a ton of it. The reveiwer finished the game in 18 hours and only got half the achievements (330)
  • Optional stuff doesn't tie into main quest enough
  • 6-7 hours if you do none of the optional stuff (about normal for an action game)
  • controls are fantastic
  • Above all fun game

So...basically the exact opposite of the Game Informer review.

There's a reason why Square-Enix said that selling this game on the Wii won't be easy.

Do not forget to add that they picked a group of American High School Students to make the Crystal Bear's commercial. That thing was amateurish and awful. The singer was singing while the characters were talking, sensory overload anyone.

Wait, are you serious!?

How was that amateurish?  That's how a lot of games are marketed in Japan.  FFXIII included.

I haven't seen the commercial, but the part that stuns me is the "going to American high-school students." Has any major company done that?

I'm still waiting for Red Steel which will be better than that. Is that me or can we only count on Nintendo for this gen?
