Sony: November NPD numbers exceeded our expectations

Now with NPD numbers for November are up, each of the console manufacturers will reply in accordance to these numbers sooner or later. Jack Tretton, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America has responded in accordance to November NPD numbers and expressed his excitement for the next year.

Tretton said regarding the growth of sales of the PS3 “In November, PS3 was the only hardware console to see any growth when compared to last November, experiencing an 88% lift and a 122% increase from the previous month. Metacritic also unveiled this week its 2009 Game Platform Power Rankings, in which PS3 titles topped the charts on overall game quality, tallying up five of the top ten best reviewed games in 2009 and with UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves taking best reviewed game of the year,”

Then he expressed his excitement for December and for the next year “The sheer appetite and interest in the PS3 this holiday has been overwhelming and is exceeding our expectations,” he continues “So much so, some retailers are expected to experience tight supply this December. There’s no question the holidays are looking very bright for PlayStation and we’re confident that the new year is on pace for the same with hugely anticipated titles hitting the platform, such as MAG, God of War III, BioShock 2, and Final Fantasy XIII.”

For the record, there were 710,400 PS3s sold in November compared to 819,500 Xbox 360s. Also, Uncharted 2 wasn’t one of the top ten sellers of November. Nevertheless, it was one of the best months for Sony’s PS3.

Good for them. The PS3 is waaaaay up YOY.

No mention of the PSP or PS2?

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I was to late this was already posted here http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=94993&page=1#

Man I wish these companies would get the "I can't spin this" syndrome and would jsut be brutally honest in their replies.

Their replies would be something like this:

Sony: We LOOOOVE selling this console at a loss to you, you bunch of cheap spoiled brats.

Microsoft: We can't sell for shit in Japan and are getting destroyed in Europe, but alteast we can outsell one of our two competitors on our home turf...if we pay walmart to offer 100 bucks off. We are number 1!!!

Nintendo: Huh? Sorry, whats NDP?

The sales are good and they definitely should be proud of that.

The only question I have is how much they are losing on each console sold right now. That is the big downside to price cuts and increases in sales. For each additional console you sell, you also subtract a loss due to the production cost/retail price ratio. We won't know for a several months how this affected Sony's quarterly earnings (especially now with so many divisions jammed together), but last year it DEFINITELY affect Microsoft, as the sales were way up but the revenue wasn't due to the losses incurred from the price cuts.

Thanks I just had a different source though.

On topic great turnaround Sony.

I know I'm a noob to sales figures so don't be mad at me for asking this. What the hell is NPD? As far as I can tell on this site. Ps3 outsold 360 for all of november worldwide. isn't that the sales mark that counts? this thread says 360 sold 800K plus and ps3 only 700k plus for november. are you just talking about American sales? do you know how silly that is? europe and Japan more people combined than just America. just by these numbers alone it show's that based one current trends ps3 will outsell 360 by 2013.
