Forums - Sony Discussion - Should I Get Demon's Souls?

I recommend it highly, but at the same time with much caution. It is essentially an MMO that you play alone...for the most part. Lots of min maxing and character grinding. It is ridiculously hard, and you will die non stop, and when you die you are punished severely for dying. Souls are used for everything from buying weapons to leveling up. And by "level up" I mean buy one stat point at a time for increasingly hefty sums of souls. Upgrading your equipment requires a number of unique items you have to harvest off of random item drops off of enemies, plus souls. If you die, you lose ALL of the souls you collected. There goes your hard earned stat point, or weapon upgrade. There will be grinding, lots of grinding. Finding a good spot to harvest souls or a particular type of item and then just spending hours there. You will be going to a demon souls wiki, and plotting in minute detail the paths you will upgrade your weapons and character, you will need to in order to survive. This game gives almost no instruction, or explanation of how things work, you will need to find a good faq. It is a hardcore RPG, the hardest core RPG to come out this gen by far. I doubt the majority of people who buy this game even finish the main game, let alone the new game + modes that increase the difficulty further.

If that doesn't scare you away, or make you want to pass it up then by all means get it. It's unique, innovative, has a great art style, precise spot on gameplay, an interesting world to explore. But it isn't for everyone. If the first paragraph actually entices you rather than makes you exhausted and bored, and frustrated just reading it, then it's a great game to get.

@Strife

That's not a reason. I can also game for about one hours per day due to Collegue and Thesis work, yet I found Demon's Souls the most exciting experience this generation so far.
It's about the soul and dedication that you put into the game, not the time.

It's pretty obvious that Demon's Souls is not your type of game and that you seek easier challenges or aren't even bothered to overcome difficulties in gaming. Guess you choose the wrong game.

Listen maybe ill give the game a chance since your saying theres another way which is better but i have to buy it again i almost beat that red eyes but too much mana or whatever it is called so i gave up i needed one shot to kill him but by that time hes closed ground and i die.

KIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NOOB!

I actually beat that red eye knight on my first playthrough (with soul level around 20) because I didn't realize there was another way to go (I didn't look very hard). But just because I got him to fall down some stairs and then I hacked away at him before he got up. (I was quite mad then when I went to open the door behind him and it was locked...)

But yeah, totally not recommended. He's supposed to beat the crap out of you.

@Strife

I suggest that you only buy the game if you're willing to overcome many hardships, since there are lots of more enemies that are harder than the Red-Eyes themselves.

You'll probably end up the first hours in the game just learning how to block, dodge and parry accuratedly, because those are the most essential things to survive on Demon's Souls.

I can give you tips and help should you require it, and offer you sites that can help you plan your demon's souls incursions, but no amount of help is going to do you any good if you don't put your entire soul (no pun intended) on the game itself.

As you said, it's not for everyone and it certainly is the most unforgiving game released in the past years, but it's also one of the most rewarding, should you overcome it's difficulties.

Oh, and if you find even the main quest impossible, then I don't suggest you trying New Game+.

Wait, where did I ever said that i'm an elite gamer or anything of the sort?

I was giving a counter-argument to your reasons about why you hated the game, since you clearly showed that you didn't put enough effort into it.
I offered help in no malicious way, and if it bothers you too much, i'll take my offer away, just trying to be helpful.

As you, I also prefer to use my own strategies and to use my own abilities to overcome the games and to complete them, but I also recognize my limitations and know when to ask for help.

Again, i'm sorry if I offended you, yet in no manner did I come out with how you described me, nor do I think that I'm a better gamer than anyone else, in fact I think that my skills sucks in comparison to most gamers that I know.
