Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Love/Hate relationship

Good review. I'm interested in it but I'll buy it later next year. I'm all into shorter games these days.

Need wait for the Euro release, damn the Wii and its crappy region lock, when they tried this crap with Homecoming I had an import before the game was released where I imported it from.

Still pretty sure I'll dislike this, how can you have a Silent Hill game without fighting?

Survival horror games are not about fighting.  The combat systems in past SH games will at best competent(Homecoming) and at worst clunky.  Even Yahtzee, a huge SH2 fan, feels that way about the combat.

Rationing of weapons and ammo is a large part of the Silent Hill series.

While true that not all survival horror games require weapons, Silent does does.  Is how the series was built.

No one denies that Shatter Memories is making bold changes but they aren't bad.  Resident Evil 4 was GotY quality due to making bold changes.  Not being able to fight and having to run seems just as if not more freightening than rationing weapons and ammo.

While I'm sure I'm going to enjoy the Silent Hill remake, I have to agree.  Weapons were a large part of what made Silent Hill games good.  It used to frustrate me, but now I know  it's part of the framework:  The characters in Silent Hill would stumble, slowly aim at the enemy.  Sometimes, they'd totally miss their target!  Combined with the feeling that something was always lurking just offscreen (Silent Hill 1 was especially good at always keeping you tense, despite almost never showing you anything when you expected it) and it made for a very disturbing and unnerving experience.

IGN completely sold out ages ago. Nothing there of value (in the review that is).

I beat RE in less than 60 minutes running full speed. In fact, that's how you unlock some of the secrets (I think 3 hrs was the limit, though).

The old games got by because they had brain busting puzzles and tons of backtracking. They were pretty short, though. In my old age, I actually like shorter games. This one is a must by, as soon as I finish SH: Homecoming this weekend.

No way............

You're right.  I can't find my old save, but I googled the speed run online.  The fastest time in the world was one hour and nine minutes.  I know I wasn't that fast!  I'm sure it was and hour and something, though.  Oh well.

That's wild haha

Good review and score. I really liked the gameplay videos that I saw; it showed a lot of neat technology like the phone. Still, I'm a little skeptical about the no combat thing. Are there any boss "battles" in this game?
