Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Love/Hate relationship

Well the second review for this game is up:

9.0 Presentation
An altogether slick experience from beginning to end. The original license reborn into something new. Seems tailor made for Wii, from the superb flashlight to audio cues out of the Wii remote.

9.0 Graphics
The claustrophobic world comes to life in great detail. Huge, seamless world. Realistic characters with fluid animation. Amazing lighting and particle systems. Some occasional framerate hiccups.

8.5 Sound
A moody, dynamic soundtrack by composer Akira Yamaoka complements strong voice acting, spooky sound effects and audio cues tied to the Wii remote's speaker.

8.5 Gameplay
Tight controls and clever puzzles are separated by truly terrifying chase sequences and lots of different gameplay variations, some of which involve fun gestures. The flashlight alone is entertaining.

6.5 Lasting Appeal
Really fun while it lasts, but the experience is short -- about five or six hours. You can come back and play again with very different results (and even a new ending), though.

Overall looks like a great game, but some quotes are starting to bother some people on the forums, specially this one from Matt "Whatever":

This game is to previous Silent Hill outings what Resident Evil 4 is to Capcom's survival horror series

Mmmhh I don't know my copy arrives next week so I'll give an opinion later.

hahaha no wonder Matt has no credibility, i can't believe he said that... LOL. RE 4 is a classic, and no one will care about this new Silent Hill game.

No, he was talking about this:

  • Plays completely different than every other SH game before it
  • Looks amazing for the system it's on
  • Has the potential to create new fans, please old ones, and completly split the fan base
  • Still seems like a good game despite being so different from past games

Does he mean that it's like RE4 in that in took the franchise in a new direction which ultimately led to it's own destruction? Or does he mean that it's the best game in the series?
Because I'm going to have a hard time believing the latter....

No, no Resident Evil REmake is the best game in the series. Repeat that 3 times in front of a mirror

Was REmake the one on Gamecube? Because I can agree to that.

Anyway, it wasn't my opinion that RE4 was the best... it just seems to be a general consensus I've seen around the nets. REmake is always close by though.

he seems to be against the game... lost trust as well as craig

I see the opposite, he really liked the game and is recommending it even if it's too short.

I think it was a good review, with valid points.

@ Gansito

He compares it to RE4 because it was so different to the traditional Resident Evils.

I'm gettin' this regardless.

That´s too short for a SH game :(
