I have to agree that you can't be awarding GOTY for the acclaim that a game might still be getting in ten years. I think that Mario NSMBWii is more likely to age better than U2 because it is less reliant on the technology of the day but that still doesn't guarantee more acclaim down the line.

I think that it's just as likely that this game inspires Nintendo to revisit 2D even more and NSMBWii itself get's supersceded by a more polished, more inspired, more original and more fun 2D Mario.

However GOTY is about the here and now and even if we argue that NSMBWii is a WORTHY contender, it hasn't appeared to resonate with critics and reviewers as much U2 and MW2 and therefore is not likely to win very many GOTY awards

You're going to stick your hat in with Famitsu over 3 points?  U2 should be proud of scoring that high on Famitsu as a shooter.

 

Btw....the reason you'll still be playing NSMBWii when Uncharted 3 comes out is that they'll make that before Nintendo makes another 2D Mario.

If Nintendo made a new 2D Mario on Wii, you can be sure that people would stop playing NSMBWii.

You tend to stop playing the original if a good sequel releases... if you would rather play the original than the sequel, it's a bad sequel.

  Wrong, I still play Mario 3, Mario World and NSMB DS, and I don't intend to ever stop playing NSMB Wii

 

Uncharted you'll be 100% right about, people will stop playing, but 2D Mario, that never gets old
