Forums - Sales Discussion - First day sales Japan 12/3 (NSMBWii, PSP2 and Gundam vs Gundam Next)

NSMB Wii should double-triple by the end of the week. Galaxy went from 130,000 to 250,000 from day one to week one when released at a similar time.

Sinobi says New Super Mario Brothers DS had a nearly identical day one, and rose to nearly 900,000.

Well i was still predicting 850k for NSMB first week. Looks like I'm in line with that prediction. For comparison NSMBDS did 480k first day, First week 950k. I think we just overhyped the figures, so dont take away anything, those are amazing numbers!

Also Tokimemo 4 does well, and is on its way to a 50k debut. SW3 i'm slightly disappointed with. I was hoping closer to 120k'sh first day sales, but it isnt to be. Hopefully it will pick up during the weekend.

PSP2 and Gundam doin great numbers as well. PSP2 easily gna do abt 280k like i predicted :D

All in all solid week! cant wait for next week numbers

That would be awesome if true.  :O

Don't know if you could call this a good start for SW3. It will probably sell about half of what SW2 did first week. Then again, SW2 sold about half of what the original SW sold so maybe the series is just going the way of the dodo.

The Musou franchise is going downhill in general. Up until DW5 they all broke a million in Japan easy, but around that time they added Sengoku  Musou and later Gundam Musou to their yearly lineup, and now even the main series struggles to break 600k across all platforms in Japan.

SM3's Wii exclusivity will probably lead to even lower sales in the near term (until it gets ported - rather, if it gets ported), because most DW fans have been migrating from ps2 to ps3 alongside DW6, DW6: Empires, and GM1/2.

As SW3 had a very similar first day as Musou Orochi Z, I have a feeling that the fanbase of the Musou games (like some other series) are on the PS3 rather than the Wii.

So can we really expect 150k for Wii hardware..? first day numbers dont look so high to me that Wii hardware will see a big spike..

I wouldn't be surprised.  Japan is a very volatile market.  Look at the spikes the ps3 recieved from MGS4 and the FFXIII demo.  NSMBWii has an opening week far higher than either of those (at least 2x).

But then, the Wii does already have a substantial install base in Japan, and there have been numerous Mario games released on the console already.  But 2D Mario kinda stands on its own.

I honestly have no idea how the Wii might do, but 150k wouldn't surprise me at all.

NSMBW - 420k
Not bad for a first day. Definitely not a bomb, but it will take some time, before this game hits 1M in Japan.
Anyway, i`m not impressed.

PSP2 - 202k
This one did ok.

Samurai Warriors 3 - 81k
Those numbers look low to me, 1st did 654k in first week and 2nd did 316k. This one probably will sell 120k first week. I considered this game as big, which can sell 500k+ LTD, but looks like, not on Wii.

NSMBWii will take a whole two week to break a million at its current pace. How atrocious. I can't believe any game would take so unbelievably long to break a million in one specific region. Clearly it was a terrible launch. Of course I wouldn't expect anyone to be impressed by a game that is on track to have the largest opening of a home console game in 2009. That is hardly an accomplishment.

I assume you mean in Japan.  In which case, I have a feeling Final Fantasy XIII will top a million week one, thus beating out New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  :P

Other than that, I agree with your sarcasm.  ^_^
