Forums - Sales Discussion - Capcom opinions on Zack&Wiki sales

I am still having trouble getting the game because my guy is having trouble getting the game.

Let me explain, I tend to order from a small independen game shop (not a chain store) because I know the owner.

His wholesaler did not start to carry Z&W until after it came out. I had no trouble getting Namco Remix but am still awaiting Z&W. I hope to get it tomorrow.

The point is this game caught a lot of people "asleep at the switch" because no one knew to whom it would appeal. The answer is everyone (as itn it appeals to everyone).

Give it time and it will sell. Supply problems have not hurt Wii demand.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Did someone compare Heavenly Sword to Zack and Wiki?

Heavenly Sword was like, a very expensive game. Zack and Wiki... not so much. Capcom probably has to sell 1/4th of what HS would to break even. If that.

Either way, I think people just really really want Z&W to succeed so that we get more games in that genre... and that's something I can respect. However people pretending it was supposed to make chart topping sales or even close I think bought into their own hype a bit.

The whole thing is a genre like the SRPG games, hopefully it'll post a strong enough return that people make more of em.

Maybe capcom will port it to other consoles...?

Capcom's happy with sales.
Capcom's angry at publishers.

That's all I needed to hear.

Capcom are the publisher, they're miffed at their retailers.

I think the important things here are that low sales are due mostly due to store chains still being in "durrrrr... the Wii has no good games durrrrr..." mode, so sales improving over the opening week as well as decent legs are still possible, and Capcom is not disappointed with sales. It was a relatively low-budget game in a very niche genre anyway, so they probably weren't expecting much more than 500k or so.

We're definitely going to get more quirky original games like this on the Wii, but I think most of them are going to end up as Wii Ware titles, both to save money and to avoid goof-ups like this

That'd be neat.  Though I not sure if it'd sell much better on the 360 or PS3.  Nintendo seems to have a lot of the Nostalgia market covered just by being Nintendo.  I mean it couldn't take many resources to port.

Though I think a port to PC would be a more profitable avenue since that's where the point and click games reigned supreme in the first place.

I thought the Rayman Raving Rabbids ports were stupid, but a Zack & Wiki port to PS3 or 360 would be absolutely moronic.

You folks understand this is a point and click adventure which makes heavy use of motion controls... Right?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I'm guessing you haven't had the opportunity to play it yet if you think it's possible to port this game. This is all motion controls, and some of the motion control puzzles are literally impossible to do with a regular controller. This is the first game that I can confidently say is impossible on anything but the Wii.  This isn't really as much a point in click adventure as it is a giant motion controlled puzzle game.  It does give nostalgia to those who've played point and click games, but it's a big change and it's not one that's possible on the PC or any other console.

Some people must play Rayman Raving Rabbids on other consoles (besides Wii) to see how much disappointment it may generate =]

Anyone remember Phoenix Wright? Capcom shipped like 13 copies to the entire US, then the demand for the game picked up via word of mouth and people started buying it more and more. Now it's on its 3rd DS sequel and the game has a huge following.

I suspect the same will be true for Zak and Wiki.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Nope.  I've got three Wii games and a PS2 game i've yet to even take out of the wrap because i've been playing MLB Power Pros non-stop.  As such i can't buy another game in good consience.  Even though I did see Wario Ware for a good price the other day.  Let alone go out of my way to find Zach and Wiki.  I'll have to wait to do that after X-mas.
