Forums - Sales Discussion - Capcom opinions on Zack&Wiki sales

Well yes, as it's an awesome game. But if it flops.. then it flops. I was just pointing out that in this thread some people were making some very bold statements about the games success or failure. When it's far too early to tell how it will do.

Sure it won't hit a million or anything like that, but it still might be a very successful game. Or it might not.

As for your earlier "based on Hype statement. Think of it this way. Go to Gamerankings and check out this game and Ratchet and Clank. you may notice that despite being out for about the same amount of time, Ratchet has 29 reviews and Zack n' Wiki has... 9.

Sure they're all glowing reviews, and some of those websites have really pushed the game, but most websites haven't even reviewed it. It's a game that most people don't even know of it's existence yet. And they might never, as the game could see significant declines in sales during the next few weeks and die a sad forgotten death. I'm just saying that it's silly to predict such a thing based on it's first week's numbers.

P.S. Yikes! Even Conan has more reviews than Zack & Wiki

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Some people are quite hell-bent on slapping this game with the flop stick.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Look people, stop trolling. We're just interested in why this game was not stocked well the first few days, when OBVIOUSLY quite a few members in this forum even were trying to find it. It's obvious a number of Wii owners were interested in the game, and it'd be a shame if they understocked by a lot because they didn't realize the demand was there.

Now we have an explanation, and it's apparently the retailer's fault for not realizing this game had at least some demand.

It could very well be a "flop," but if day one sales were decent according to Capcom, and heck, I hardly know anyone who could even find it on day one, then I'm guessing it will do fairly well over time.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

While I totally appreciate Ioi's efforts, the software tracking isn't all that reliable yet. It's the best we have at the moment, but we won't really know til NPD is released.

Remember when MP8 was completely under tracked?

Do you think retailers want to be stuck with tons of inventory they can't sell? They can actually loose more that way, as opposed just not making money. It's far worse to loose money than to miss an opportunity. I am sure retailers have been burned listening to hype of companies and then have the product not sell before... Plus a certain amount of lost sales, people will check again later. It's not as easy as it sounds to predict sales.

 PS3....

HS had huge advertising, it had half a dozen spots on every NFL game for 2 weeks. I haven't seen a single advert for Z&W, much less a high profile ad like that. The only advertising so far has been from word of mouth.

I understand it but that is only nintendo's fault, they should have advertised it then.

If you want to say that sales are indicative of a flop right now, go ahead. But I don't think I ever called HS a flop.

I am not talking about you SQL, I was talking in general.

When the HS sales were there a lot of people were calling it a failure and were laughing with it

Now it is the same situation but with a Wii game and of course some Sony fanatics wants revenge.

What did you thought?  That they should shut up about it?

I know this would happen.

HS had people pumping it for months saying how PS3 sales would explode. Z&W has certainly had some hype, but nobody was counting on it being a huge blockbuster. Plus Z&W probably has 1/10 the development budget and 1/100 the marketing budget of HS.

You dont seriously think the two situations are comparable, do you?

But how would you define success for the game? Turning a profit, selling above expectations, successful in......quality?

 Alright bro.

Here's some factors to take into consideration

-How big of a budget the game required to produce.

-How much money was invested in advertising.

Why is this fans vs fans, and attackign and revenge etc.

Just becasue someone criticizes a high profile, large budget game that had a lot of advertising on prime time tv, it doesn't mean that they are a "nintendo fan" or "anti sony person" or anything.  It just means that a person finds it ironic that a game that has so much money thrown at it still fails.  It has nothing to do with allegiance to a company or anything.

Here we have a game with a graphical style that is largely criticized, a gameplay genre that's been dead for over 10 years, a "kiddy" game that doesn't appeal to "hardcore TRU GAMERZ," characters that they made no attempt to localize, and little to no adverstising, and it still pulls in decent sales numbers.  It's ironic that, against all of these odds, the game even sold at all.

Do you see the difference, because there is quite a glaring one.
