Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wiik 42 2007, The sale of the Wii last week

Hi all. Its time again for a Wiik for the week. Lets start, shall we?

America – Or Wii are back where Wii belong

The Wii sold 148 thousands units this week. Thats 16% more than last week and it took back the top spot from the 360 this week. The Wii had 2 titles in the Top 10 (20%), 11 titles in the top 50 (22%) and 33 titles in the Top 200 (17%)

Software Top 15:

15(14) 85(74) Mario Strikers Charged 13 6,797 -9,00% 369,508

#1 The biggest release this week was Naruto: Clash of the Ninja Revolution taking spot 3 on the Wii and spot 11 overall.
#2 EA Playground has a decent release. My Simms still holds relatively steady. Looks like EA can sell some software on the Wii.
#3 The Legend of Zelda crossed the 2 Million mark in the Americas.
#4 Metroid Prime seems to have reached a stable point for know.
#5 Zack&Wiki hit #4 on the Wii and #13 overall. Thats a nice debut, despite being sold out or not ordered in many places, as people on the forum reported.

Outlook: This massive amount of units suggest that not only shops are releasing may stockpiled units, Nintendo has to ship more, a lot more. The Christmas season has begun for the Wii in America. Guitar Hero hit the charts next week. It will be interesting how it sold. If you go by the leader board on the website it got outsold by the 360 version big time and hold up against the PS3 one. The Wii it self should be around the same as this week, about 140 thousands units.

Japan -

To Come.

Other – Or who says thats a small market?
The Wii sold 142 thousands units this week. Thats up 3%. ioi corrected the database, and its know showing that the Wii sells nearly as good as in America. It sold out the PS3 by 2:1 and the Xbox360 3:1.

Software:
UK:
#1 Metroid Prime 3 hit the charts at #1 for the Wii and #7 overall. Thats a good release, considering it was up again PES 2008 on 3 consoles.
#2 Carnival:Funfair games got a revival and is #2 on the Wii and #14 overall.

If anyone has links to charts of other countries, I am happy to include it.

Outlook: Metroid Prime 3 was the released this week in the E.U. Next week Need for Speed hits and thats a big title in the E.U. But it should help the 360 and PS3 more than the Wii, so I see falling numbers next week 130 thousand Wii's sold sounds reasonable.

Overall:

The Wii did great this week, in all territories and will most likely do better next week WW, caused by Japan and the Mario release next week.
This are the important upcoming games for each territory:
CW Europe Japan America
44 Need for Speed ProStreet Yoshi's Storry Manhunt 2
The Simpson Game Super Mario Galaxy Battalion Wars 2
  Opoona The Simpson Game
45 EA Playground Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 Bee Movie Game
Endles Ocean Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga Mario & Sonics at the Olympic Games
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground

That was the Wiik for the calender week 43, hope it was interesting and you come back next week for the Guitar Hero/ Mario Galaxy week.

Ah could a mod edit the title please? thats wiik 43 not 42.

33/200 = 17% :).

Nice stats.

Impressive to see Metroid stabilise, RE4 pick up so much - and hardware in general increase.

After a slow start, Carnival has sold almost 200k - in the US alone. Be interesting to see if EA Playground has a similar success.

MySims is selling decently after all - similar level to Carnival games.

Boogie nowhere to be seen. Mario Party 8 still doing great figures. Apart from WiiSport/Play, it might end up being the best selling Wii title (may outsell Zelda by some time next year!).

Going to be a lot of activity in the coming weeks - with so many new releases.

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

Mario Party 8 should be outsold by WiiFit, SMG, Brawl, and Mario Kart. It might even be outsold by Mario Party 9 if it gets much better graphics (which is possible), better controls, and online play.

currently playing: Desktop Tower Defense (PC), Puzzle Quest (DS), Trauma Center New Blood (Wii), Guitar Hero III (Wii), Ghost Squad (Wii), Actraiser (SNES), Donkey Kong County (SNES), The Legend of Zelda (NES), Kirby's Adventure (NES)

will play next: Paper Mario (N64), Golden Axe II (Sega), NiGHTS (Wii)

I was in a shop of the biggest retailer in Germany and saw their Wii charts. You won't believe me what was #2: Boogie.

What's with the Wii love for anime games?

I believe it. Somehow Boogie haven't sold as good as i expected. It fits the same category with Singstar, which is in the PS2 top ten list, usually with 2 versions. But propably the "casual" or "non-gaming" audience haven't yet "found" Wii.

@Ben: which one is bigger, Saturn or Mediamarkt?
