Tha really tells you something... Ps3 is only 2 games per console behing 360 in its home territory when 360 games always sell better multiplat AND 360 has Halo 3... thats outstanding. Ps3 probablly makes that up WW... maybe even beats out the 360 considering I bet Japan heavily favors Ps3

That's 2 games per console sold AND 8.8 * 9 million consoles behind. that's roughly 100,000,000 less software unit sales. Assuming games sell at an average of $40, that's $4 Billion. Yes, that does really tell you something.

I think the additional year on the market for the 360 more than justifies the additional 2 units per console.

I don't think MS gets more than $30 per unit for a 1st party game.  A large percentage of the software units sold are by third parties where MS will only get licensing royalties..  I think your 4 billion dollar number is a little bit high.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

There are a massive amount of 360 owners who play only a few games, those games being Halo and the Call of Duty games. Really, outside of that, software sales numbers are fairly equal for exclusives on both consoles
Also consider Ratchet: A Crack In Time, its numbers seem small, but insomniac has stated that those numbers are consider very successful. A lot of these franchises would rather the game sell continuously over time than just a huge blowout the first couple weeks. Just depends what goals you are trying to meet.

I buy mostly exclusive games for my PS3 and almost all my multi-plat games for my 360. I buy alot more PS3 exclusive games then I buy for my 360. But I buy 10x more multi-plat games for my 360.

Umm...

You need to understand that not all games are Call of Duty, Halo, Gran Turismo or Mario.

Uncharted 2 sold 830k Worldwide in its first week ! Games don't need to sell like MW2 to be successful.
Lifetime sales of 1 million is enough for a game to be a "hit" imo.

This.

There's way too much emphasis on games having to get a 90 on metacritic and sell multiple millions in order to be called a success.

I agree with MGS4_4ever that 1 million sales is a success for most games, granted a Halo/GT/MW game has to sell multiple millions to be a success. And I think even if a game gets a 75 metascore its a pretty good game! If it gets an 80 its great and if it gets a 90 its amazing. Not all games have to get perfect reviews to be good.

I meant $40 at retail, assuming lots of copies sold at $50-$60, and the rest selling at lower prices eventually averaging at $40... not $40 to MS per game. Just total revenue generated.

A lot of those PS3 games are just being used as Blu-Ray players, that's why. Especially in U.K. where Blu-Ray movies are king. I actually do use my PS3 for both games and some blu-ray movies. Watched G.I. Joe last night on Blu-Ray. Wasn't bad. Wasn't great, but not bad. The PS3 has a decent upscale as well. I haven't compared it against the XBox 360, but "Yip Man" looked incredible playing on my PS3.

I think its a question of Harcore Fanbase.

GoW1 sold more than GoW2 :)

Does this mean the 360 audience is the true hardcore gamer? *waits for response*

well..it will continue to have legs atleast...and just wait till other flagship titles are bound to release as the PS3 market share continues to increase in NA.
