Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Greatest Game Ever? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Offiical Thread

Truly there is only a few games in the history of the industry that have garnered so much respect that the simple mention of the name is associated with excellence in the sense of every positive quality.  When Ocarina of Time released this truly happened.  This is the official thread for one of the greatest games ever made although debatable as the title suggests.

When OOT release, the industry revolutionized as every other game after it had to have something similar to it.  Adventure genre had been defined and for the most part still plays the exact same way.  OOT just wasn't a game but it was truly a work of art and a masterpiece.  It showed how every piece of development can come together to create one of the most immersive experiences ever.  Discuss the merits and or nonmerits of this game here while your best and worst parts.  And of course given the thread, is this really the greatest game ever made and does it deserve the credibility it has garners.

If you ask me it deserves every bit and more.  To me this was a defining point in my gaming history where I knew this wasn't a sillly hobby that kids did but a form of entertainment on the likes of that of movies and music.  This game gave the industry a Beethoven Symphony number 5 with Miyamoto being Beethoven.  Although there had been masterpieces before this, this game brought the gaming to even higher standards and levels unprecedented.  Gaming to me was no longer child's play but experiencing a classic movie or classical song to be studied and enjoyed for year's to come.  Indeed I do consider it the greatest game ever made.  But this is open discussion so let's here what everyone else thinks.

i dunno about all THAT. personally i wasnt so impressed ... an hour in after beating the tree and meeting zelda i was bored and even up till that point the game wasnt very captivating so i stopped playing. i have ,however, since promised many of my friends who love the game i would play through the whole game at some point so we shall see... ill give my updated impression once i get arround to it.

3 threads in less than an hour?

Pixel Art can be fun.

Reading your post Zucas makes me want to play the game again. Mind you, it's my favorite game ever. It was the first game I beat on my own and I felt accomplished conquering a Zelda game because Link's Awakening DX kicked my ass when it came to puzzles (keep in mind I was 8 when I first played it).

And with that, I'm off to play me some Ocarina of Time.

Which is funny considering I hardly ever make threads haha.

The only game that comes even close to OoT level of masterpiece is Xenogears.

Oddly enough both of then were released in 1998

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

It's not even the best Legend of Zelda game.

So no.

But even the not best legend of Zelda games are still like top 20 best games ever right haha.

Let me guess Link to the Past fan.  Usually that, first Zelda, and OOT are the ones that Zelda fans contend on on which is the best.

Game of the forever, definitely.

Sure games have come after it that did a lot of things better, but that's only natural. OOT set the standard. Playing the game again now, it doesn't look so hot, though it's still a brilliant masterpiece, but you have to bear in mind that this released in 1998, when 3D games were a pretty new thing, and OOT did a *lot* of revolutionary, brand new and genius things, never seen before.

99% Of all 3D games released today wouldn't be what they are, were it not for OOT (And SM64, too).

Yes, best game ever made, to me.

In 1998 I'm sure it was amazing, but for me playing it for the first time ever in 2009, it's borderline unplayable.
