Forums - Nintendo Discussion - When game "journalists" have their trolling exposed.

Mr Khan said:

Once upon a time (on my birthday in 2008, actually. August 26th), Nintendo made a rather innocent comment about how core games take 2-3 years to develop. The right honorable Mr. James Ransom-Wiley of Joystiq, in his infinite wisdom, spun that into this:

Dear Core: Wait 2-3 years (Love, Nintendo)

Nintendo has affixed a timeline to the vague, yet sincere promise that games based on the company's "core" franchises are in development. "We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years," Nintendo stated in the October issue of Edge, as reported by Eurogamer. "These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams." So sit back, twiddle some other thumbsticks, and let those other folk navigate the slopes for a while. Your turn's a comin'.

Which some commenters of course immediately corrected him on, and i continued to bring it up throughout the rest of that year on joystiq, reminding them that they should be ashamed to have associated with it, but of course nothing ever happened. He even got promoted.

The 2nd and 3rd example are terrible, I agree. But the first? I don't really see any difference between the original sentence and the new one: it's just worded slightly clearer.

It's not the wording that's at fault in that case, but instead the fact that the reviewer blatantly bashed the Wii while ignoring first-hand evidence to the contrary of what he said.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Go to PC World and check out just about anything that Matt Peckham has written about the Wii.

He semi-trolls when he tries to tell the truth.

I am disappointed no one mentioned the Nielsen case. Nielsen do some research on console playtime. Kotaku blamed others like they always do.

I forgot all about this!  And look, Luke Plunkett again!

Great thread Kenology! If I may add, the negative slant IGN put on Monster Hunter 3 sales.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Let them cry. I say it's good. Now we see most gaming journalists as pathetic little children they really are.

Let me explain better (I was at work and could not write more). Nielsen does these charts about playtime. So one month the Wii playtime on a graph was ridiculously low. Kotaku rushed to post it without even questioning the data (it reinforced their beliefs). The issue is that Nielsen data deal with opinions and perceptions along with hard data. You have to take it with a grain of salt. Kotaku took it as undeniable hard evidence that people do not play their Wiis. They made a smart ass article mocked it and then ... it backfired. It was just the first graph that had a problem if they read the full thing they would see the contradiction. Chances are that they just saw it on another blog and posted it. The correct report show that the Wii has much higher and even surpassed the xbox on usage on one month (disgraceful soccer moms).

Crescente saying Nielsen dropped the ball just make it more sad. Reading the report or confirming with Nielsen would have saved them.

thread is hilarious, keep adding more stuff

I haven't posted in maybe a year but visit the site almost daily. I feel this thread deserves support. The propaganda being spread by some of these "journalists" is blatant hatred. It is unfortunate that they label themselves as news sources. Kenology and others, keep up the good work.
