Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ubisoft NOT blaming Wii for losses in profit - The Truth

What i find funny is when these truth articles come out when the Wii has been reported wrongly, just how many people decide not to take part. In the reverse situation this will be a 100+ comments thread.

I am not saying everyone needs to rally up and shout "good on you Wii", I am more disappointed that nobody is discussing what a serious disservice these so called Game Journalists are putting us through. It totally disgusts me.

This reminds me of the time a false report came out about the Wii being outsold by the 360 in the UK (at least i think it was the UK), there were many reports and a general buzz going around every gaming site with journalists proclaiming Wii's doom (LOL nothing different there). But as soon as it was found out to be false, not many gaming sites reported it, or if they did it was such a brief mention you wouldn't know what the truth Was.

totally pathetic

"- Two investors phrased their questions in a way that would make this thread proud. One called Wii software sales a "malaise," the other saying that the Wii wasn't helping the industry. The Ubisoft reps shot down both suggestions, stating that they expect the Wii to have huge December and that 'the system has a high penetration and can be very profitable with quality software.'"

Makes you wonder why Ubisoft would defend a console they lose money on...The last part is very true.

Before I put Kotaku in the Hall of Shame, does this guy have a source? Not saying that he's lying but I don't want to be fooled again...

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Ubisoft has 15 shovelware crap headed to 360 and PS3 confirmed!
Motion Controls with Ubisoft just can't win.

you have to be very selective about Kotaku news posters, especially with Mike Fahey (the one that posted this news) and Luke Plunkett.

taking a look at that quote, if I understand it correctly, it matches what the guy from Neogaf says:

"Based on this initial data, Assassin's Creed 2 looks well positioned to outstrip targets while our Wii games have got off to a more contrasted start in a less predictable market."

it looks like AC2 will surpass expectations, while some Wii games did well and others not so well.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

@EVERYONE: I didn't follow this whole discussion from the beginning, so correct me if i'm wrong, but am i right when i say this:

Kotaku reported about Ubisoft losing more profits on Wii and gaining profit on big franchises. Some dude on Neogaf claims this is all out of context and that Wii is not to blame for their losses. To prove his point, he shows a "SALES" breakdown by platform for the 6 month period. But since when do sales equal profit? Maybe Ubisoft released like 50 Wii games that accounts for 22% of their sales in this period, while just 2 PS3/X360 games account for a combining 29% of their sales. Not even talking about the PROFITS those sales generate. But of course this is all hypothetical, but in the end the graph the Neogaf guy uses as evidence is all but evidence to me.

Maybe i'm completely missing the point here, like i said, i didn't follow this whole discussion, but to me it seems like some of you guys just "prefer" the Neogaf guy version of the story, instead of the Kotaku version. For the record, though, i'm honestly not trying to bash anyone. So, if i'm wrong than please let me know.

Easy... the Wii makes more revenue, and no one in their right minds would suggest that Wii development is more expensive (especially for a company like Ubisoft which pumps out Wii shovelware at an alarming rate).

More revenue + less expense = more profit.

Heh, I barely paid attention to the original report other than making fun of the Ubisoft boycott working. As for this article it's nice to see that they know quality will sell, I guess after the imagine series stopped selling they realized the wrongness of their ways :P

Hopefully next year Ubisoft will put out something interesting, Smash Up was great for me but the TMNT IP isn't as popular anymore, that was basically one of the only two Ubisoft games I've played this year, and while I recommend both I wouldn't go around saying it was some of the best games this year.

Writing to be deceptive really isn't journalism, they're just trying to further their own objective by twisting the truth to seem negative...

that's exactly why I do not put stake in game journalists, I play a game to get the game experience for myself. How many movie review critic's have been wrong about a movie you thought was great , but they said was poor, or just luke warm?

I bet quite a number of people could indeed relate to that.

these game journalists are in my Opinion just like film critic's, they give their Opinion on a Game you than decide for your self if you want to play that game.
