Forums - Sony Discussion - MGS4 delayed til Q2 08

Good things come to those who wait.

After all, Michaelangelo started the Sistine Chapel in 1508 and didn't finish until 1512. Surely we can grant Kojima-san a similar timeframe. Because this game is going to blow the roof off Art As We Know It.

This generation is so ironic...

The #1 selling point of the PS3 is how powerful it is... how beautiful the graphics are...how much crap can fit on a blue ray disc.

All of these things are slowing down the development required to make a game... all these delays are going to hurt sony big time.

Thats post is funny but not becasue its good but because its so wrong.

Most development problems are on multi platform games, game slike MGS or GT will get delayed untill the maker Kojima or Yamaguchi feel it matches their their expectations. No half ass'd FF MGS GT GTA will ever be relesesed, the franchises are to valuable to let them slip in to mediocracy.

How is that saying he's wrong?  A franchise slipping into mediocrity can be caused by a lot of things.  If the programming is tough or if it takes a lot more time and effort to do all these high res textures then it will push the development time longer since they want to avoid it being bad.

What you said actually complements his statement.

My thought is maybe Kanomi has reduced it's recourses towards MGS.

Instead of maximizing production, say 200 staff to have it completed in 4 months, they have restructured and now only have 100 staff to complete over 8 months...

The reason I suggest this is because of the recent sales of the PS3, (Or lack there of) even after a price drop in the UK and the introduction of the 40GB there and in Japan having such a little impact that now rather then speeding the production using more recourses, they are going to take a wait and see what happens over the holiday sales.

Is sales are still poor for the PS3, even after the new price drop, new 40GB unit, and whatever else, then as they have spread out their recourses and are still a little from the PS# MGS completion, they can begin to look at porting.

However, if sales begin to improve with the 40GB and price drop, Then Kanomi can be confident in releasing the game PS3 exclusive.

To me, this delay shows a lack of confidence in Sony and/or the PS3's sales ability... especially since Europe's sales, even with a huge price drop and new 40GB unit, has done so poorly that maybe they are thinking the PS3 might not be able to pull out of this one....

Capcom with Monster Hunter 3 anyone???

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

ouch all i got to say

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Really?  Xbox 360 sales are doing great in Europe (sarcasm).  Price cut, cheaper, Halo 3, more games.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

All of this is speculation without knowing the specifics of any legal/contactual objections Konami is working under in respect to the game.

According to many reports this delay applies to the US/EU versions of the game. Q1 is still set for Japan.

Exactly right.  This is all just speculation. I was just sharing my thoughts, that's all.

@FinalEvangelion - Not to say the 360 is in any better position.  Just meaning that 3rd P's thought the PS3 was going to be a huge hit no matter what. They through tens of millions behind it only to find out this is not the case... (That's if the 40GB and Price drop continues to have little impact on an overall scale).  If however this changes drematically, (Helce why I suspect Konami are taking a wait and see approach), then the 3rd P's bet was the right choice and will pay off.
