You can't even include Mario. He stars in games but there is little connection between the games other than that. The games range from puzzle, party, sports, to platformers. Guitar Hero, on the other hand, takes the exact same game and flogs it into submission several times a year. The Sims is another excellent example of abusing a franchise for all it's worth.

This.

You can't just group all Mario games together and say the franchise is milked. All the games are a different genre.

No not This.

Anything published by Nintendo with Mario in the title is part of the Mario franchise and therefore contributes to the milkage.

Mario and Guitar Hero for me. Those saying Halo are ridicolous, GT has been milked more than Halo as of now.

It all depends on what Microsoft chooses to do after REACH.

Milking is not purely defined by making a lot of games. Milking is making the maximum games with the minimum effort in order to gain huge profits. Guitar Hero fits this bill very nicely - none of Mario, GT or Halo fit this at all. The Mario games are almost without exception made with a lot of effort - there may be many of them but they're good and diverse games.

Haha.... Guitar hero, final fantasy.... NO. Not even close to being milked. This is milked. http://www.vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=imagine The Imagine series has over 42 titles on the DS in a 2 year span.

I WIN.

lol ubisoft takes the cake with this.

mario without a doubt, but we forgive it becuase the milk is usually high quality?, iuno guitar hero imagine and petz for the ds, call of duty will get fatigued by next years treyarch installment, basically any franchise activision owns gets milked into oblvion. who want to bet dj hero 2 is already in development for next year right alongside band hero 2 and guitar hero 6 and guitar hero poison or some shit. need for speed should be mentioned as well, as for most un milked franchise zelda and gran turismo deserve honorable mentions.

"even a dead god still dreams"

Mario, GH, and DW.

By this logic Megaman and Singstar are undeniable more milked than anything you listed. However, since neither has a rival fanbase they are rarely brought up in threads like these. The whole dicussion is pointless and will only be used to justify vague trolls.

You do know there have been about 20 Guitar Hero games in the past 5 years right?

Final Fantasy (VII) is milked for every penny it can get and then some but FF has nothing on the Guitar Hero franchise.

As for honorable mention, I would say Naruto games.  One of those is released like every 3-4 months.

I think final fantasy might beat that if were are talking about five years.

You're saying there has been more than 20 Final Fantasy games in any five year period?

I agree that Final Fantasy is pretty played out, but at least those games are decently spaced (by choice or management fail, whatever).

That's 60 realeases with far more than 20 unique titles, and most of the Itadki Street games aren't listed and none of the many Crystal Defenders releases are listed either.  Add in Kingdom Hearts and the Chocobo games and 80+ titles have seen release that are trying to work off of the Final Fantasy franchise in the last 5 years.  In contrast, even when you count up all multiplaform releases, GH only adds up to 50 titles and a much smaller handful of spin-offs that don't share the main series name in comparison.  The match goes to Final Fantasy, slightly more milked.

Also, Mario's name pops up 50 times in titles released by Nintendo in the last five years, but since it's been milked a lot longer than GH and going full-steam longer than FF he's probably the champ in lifetime marks, especially considering the number of games that have aped popularity from Mario ranging from Donkey Kong to Wii Fit and from Punch Out!! to Smash Bros.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

^Wait, Odin Sphere has nothing to do with Final Fantasy. Other than that...that's a lot of FF.

I don't know if I consider FF milked though, even if it's close. When I think of a milked franchise I think of GH or Imagine.

Granted that's a lot more than I thought there was, still, how varied are those uncrossed out games?

Just like how Mario has appeared in 50+ games, that's fine because it's not the same game over and over and over again being sold as a complete other game.  That list you have there half of them are FFXI expansion packs (and MMO expansions don't really count) and everything else is a different game with a fairly different feel.

There's a difference between a long list of games and milked.

Again, Guitar Hero is milked to death, Final Fantasy just has a lot of titles (though I would call FFVII milked to death).

Mario definately

How is mario milked. His name is but the seris isn't. The closest to milk is mario party. But their hasn't been a new game since 07

You do know that the games sell much better with the name "mario"? switch the character with anyone and it won't even get half the sales it could get with "mario" on the title.

Sonic would work...

Every Marios are great though.
