You can't even include Mario. He stars in games but there is little connection between the games other than that. The games range from puzzle, party, sports, to platformers. Guitar Hero, on the other hand, takes the exact same game and flogs it into submission several times a year. The Sims is another excellent example of abusing a franchise for all it's worth.

You can't just group all Mario games together and say the franchise is milked. All the games are a different genre.

OT:

I would have to say there are like 5 brands that I consider milked.  While I do play most of these companies use these games as a cash machines even if they are good or not.

 

1)  Every thing Mario

2) Guitar Hero or whatever "Hero" of the moment....

3) Final Fantasy  ( I am totally burned out on this franchise, kill it off for 10 years and take out turn based fighting and I would come back)

4) Singstar

5) Ratchet and Clank

Honorable mention goes out to : Madden,  I refuse to buy a new madden every year, what BS!!!

You do know that the games sell much better with the name "mario"? switch the character with anyone and it won't even get half the sales it could get with "mario" on the title.

Anything published by Nintendo with Mario in the title is part of the Mario franchise and therefore contributes to the milkage.

Mario and Guitar Hero for me. Those saying Halo are ridicolous, GT has been milked more than Halo as of now.

It all depends on what Microsoft chooses to do after REACH.

I'm not saying that they are not all part of the same franchise. But they are not milking the same game over and over, every games is different.

 

The only game that you could say that about is Mario Party. (But not this gen)

To me mario just has a longer history than all the other games, that is why there are so many titles. Also Mario is divided into different respected genres.

You are not alone cause so would I.

On topic:

Mario games are different and are in different genres,Platformers, Baseball, Soccer, RPGs,Tennis, Golf, Kart Racing, and finally Basketball. None of the stories are the same. Final Fantasy also has different stories which makes each game unique.

Games that I would consider milked are Madden, NBA 2k/NBA Live, Guitar Hero/Rockband/SingStar and maybe DDR but DDR does have different music and different dance moves therefore it does not fit my definition of a milked franchise.



If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba
