Another thing to note the TOP Retailer (one with most retail outlets) in Japan claimed FF13 pre-orders have surpassed FF12's a month before launch

so obviously each store is seeing different sales

I´m going to update my prediction for the first week sales.

I´m now betting on sales between 900k-1,1 million (if there are enough shipments).
I know many will think this is too high but I feel the game is in for a monsterdebut. Besides, I´m always so conservative in my predictions so this will have to be my no guts, no glory prediction =)

It will be exciting to see tomorrows preorder numbers in the japanese preview. I´m betting on at least 500k preorders.

Well it does seem that New Super Mario Bros Wii might surprise us. I think most people have been in the range of 700k-800k first week or 750k. Pretty much been what we have asserted sales to be. But based on a lot of new info coming in and quotes from Source and ioi, it's very possible we could see this game even break a million on its first week. So far no Wii game in Japan has managed to do this so it would be quite a feat.

What seems to be going on is this game is being denoted as the big holiday game on the Wii. Even further, NSMB Wii may just be the big holiday game in Japan despite FF13 coming out a couple weeks later which no one has even thought about. It is rallying the Wii hardcore support in Japan along with a big mainstream power right behind it. NSMB Wii in Japan just might be bigger than we have been giving it credit for.

All I know is the next few weeks in Japan with SW3, ToG, FF13, and NSMB Wii all coming out is going to be very interesting.

NSMBwii will be massive. can't wait to see how it does this week

Two million first week for a Wii game? Insane.

Tsutaya isn't a game focused retailer it should be pointed out... they're chiefly a video/music rental chain, though they also do game/DVD sales on the side.  They're more like Japan's Blockbuster.

600 k predorders today according to the japanese preview. I think I might be spot on in my new prediction and people originally thought that 750k were too high! Seriously though this game IS going to be massive in December and it seems like it has a really good shot at beating Brawls first week sales and become the biggest Wiiopener yet which says a lot since it should have good legs as well. 1 million is in the realm of possibility but right now my gut says 950 k =) But with this game is seems that we have to raise our predictions with each day passing so who knows where it´ll end up.

I'm starting to think ~1m 1st week isn't so far fetched. And if that's the case, 2m+ in December alone seems assurred too...

Yep I think so as well. It will likely debut around the million and then sales probably will fall to 300-400k the second week but in the fourth week during christmas sales will go mad again, perhaps around 400-500 k for that week. I think that if these patterns continue the game will exceed all our expectations and indeed sell over 2 million this year. That would be a fantastic achievement.
