Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NSMBW is going to be MASSIVE in Japan. Preorders rank higher than NSMB DS.

I actually spent a good deal of today playing NSMBW and I have to say that I'm very impressed. I missed out on all the SNES 2d iterations, so I was completely blown away by the control.

I can see this game beeing very, very huge. Something that my kids will be playing in 10 years time (when they're 3 y/o lol ).

WD Nintendo, your core gamers are (for the moment) happy once again.

Update 27/11

NSMBW: 618pt (+80)
NSMB: 343pt (+26)

Interest in New Super Mario Bros Wii seems to be skyhigh in Japan. The growth is stunning for a Nintendotitle on Comgnet. NSMBW is almost the double of what NSMB was at the same time from release and it´s gaining almost three times as fast as the DS title.

Are those pre-order numbers? NSMBWii has over 600K pre-orders?

No, these are from an internet tracking site called Comgnet that has a system with points. But they are very good at showing how the preinterest are for games in Japan. The best way to read their chart is to compare games in the same genre, that´s why I´m comparing NSMBW with NSMB.

I understand that NSMB DS sold over 900,000 forst week in japan and NSMBwii has more pre-orders than it, so could be a good sign that NSMBwii will indeed sell a massive amount.

where is he getting the comparison numbers from, I wanna se FF13 + FF12 comparison?!!

Go to Nipponsalesage. Scroll down a bit on the page and there is a link that goes to the chartarchive. These are todays number for FF13 compared with FF12 in the same time from release:

Today 27/11:

FF13: 1474pt

FF12: 2165pt

As you can see FF13 tracks quite a bit behind FF12 but it´s still tracking very high of course. Based on this FF13 will debut lower than FF12 ( I´m not saying Comgnet is without faults though so firstweeksales might be different). Comgnet is very good at showing the status of the interest in games before release so they are usually a good tracker. For instance they seem to be right about the new Layton game debuting lower than the second and third games in the series:

First week sales of Layton games according to Famitsu:

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box 307.771/first week
Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel 360.778/first week

First day sales for Layton and the Spectres Flute is 140k. First week will most likely be below Layton 2 and 3, my guess is 250-300k.

Comgnet agrees. Here are the final numbers last day before release:

Layton and the Diabolical Box: 335pt

Layton and the Last Time Travel: 366pt

Layton and the Spectres Flute: 278pt

See the pattern? So while we should not read TOO much into Comgnet they are a good indicator when comparing how games in a series will fare against previous ones.

[PS3]FF XIII ? 1415pt
[Wii]NSMB Wii ? 465pt

Before you assume FFXIII is on the order of 3x larger than NSMB Wii based on Comgnet (which it isn't), remember that sales/preorders vary tremendouly by platform at retailers.

In the USA for instance DS may perform best at Walmart, Toys R US and Target, while PS3 performs best at Best Buy, Game Stop, and Walmart.

So if Walmart was little you might see:

DS - 5,000

PS3 - 500

That doesn't make DS bigger than PS3 at a 10 fold ratio even if this miniature Walmart has substantial marketshare.
