ps3 is down wii is up

Did NSMB release in Japan yet? Looks like the Calling didnt do so hot, why is there so little love for horror games? I hate to see developers discouraged from making my favorite game genre.

Nope, it'll be out December 3rd in Japan.

Wii HW sales will continue to rise while PS3 falls or remains flat until FFXIII releases. The NSMBWii surge could tie these two for the rest of the holidays.

Great for DS hardware. Software is not impressive overall. Taiko 2 did not do that well in its first week for Wii, but hopefully it will continue to sale well. The Wii/PS3 hardware race continues to be interesting, and it certainly seems that it will come down to the wire for which console sales more in Japan for 2009.

Yeah, Taiko Wii 2's debut is awful.  It may crawl to respectable numbers (and likely will, Taiko games tend to sell only 10-20% of their lifetime total in the 1st week), but his is bad.  Previous Taiko 1st weeks this gen...

  • Taiko no Tatsujin Portable (2005) 14,593
  • Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 (2006) 14,638
  • Ennichi no Tatsujin (2006) 10,192 (Wii party-game spinoff)
  • Taiko no Tatsujin DS (2007) 60,250
  • Taiko no Tatsujin DS 2 (2008) 89,158
  • Taiko no Tasujin Wii (2008) 114,610

Wii went a bit up. Nice, but not enough for a previous market leader.

Eh, Wii's never really been the market leader in Japan.  It's always been DS.

Mediocre opening for Taiko. L4D2 and Ratchet did decent for western IPs.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Yeah but still low hardware numbers for the Wii. Last year it did 37k(although AC did release that week), so its below last year levels. The 2 weeks after the Wii did 45 and 55k respectively, without notable releases, so i expect the holidays to start having an effect soon.

I wasn't expecting the PS3 and Wii to be tied this early.

L4D2 did great, improved on L4D1's 1st week by about 10k.  R&C meanwhile is down 5k 1st week from the last one, and massively down compared to what the series was doing on PS2.

Actually, everything but L4D2 is down compared to their predecessors.  Pretty awful new software sales this week all around.
